Sandwich Review

Sometimes fate or luck or whatever you want to call it steps in and leads you on a path to something amazing. 🐍 and Legal decided they were going to a certain restaurant on the Northside, but when they got there it wasn’t what they thought. As a result, the Meat Sweats made an audible and decided to go someplace they had both been before, Rockin Chicken.

As stated before, Rockin Chicken is in an old Long John Silvers building right near the corner of 1st Avenue and Diamond. Prior to becoming Rockin Chicken it was Taqueria something restaurant. It is nothing fancy and looks almost like it did when it was a Long John’s, even though it does have some cool Rock n Roll Memorabilia hanging up.

We went there because 🐍 had never tried their wings that Legal had rated highly and which have received some high ratings throughout the state. However, when they got there, Legal mentioned that someone had told him that they had a good cheesesteak. So Legal got an order of the Jumbo Wings and 🐍 got the Philly Cheesesteak. Little did we know what was about to happen.

The Philly came out first and looked amazing. Snake cut a portion off for Legal. Moments later the Jumbo Wings came out looking as great as they always do (see previous review by Legal). Legal gave Snake one of the Jumbo Wings so he could try them. However, the wings will not be getting rated in this post. The reason….

You know they talk about “Love at First Sight”….that was Snake tonight. Then the real magic happened, both Legal and Snake tried the Cheesesteak and were literally blown away. 🐍 was speechless and fell in love. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly and mixed with the peppers and onions and cheese into a perfect blend. Snake chose pepperjack cheese and it was THE CHOICE for this sandwich. Sometimes the peppers or the onions or the cheese overpower the steak, THAT WAS NOT TNE CASE with this sandwich. Both Legal and 🐍 were speechless on how great it was. We literally looked at each other in awe at what we were consuming.

Just to emphasize how good this sandwich was, a Meat Sweats first occurred: Snake went and ordered a 2nd one!!!

If there was any complaint about this sandwich, it only would have been that we wished it was a little larger. Don’t get us wrong, they packed the meat and toppings into the bread, we only wished there was more bread to add more of this amazing sandwich too! Which in fairness, at about $12-13 for about a 7/8in Philly Cheesesteak with a side, it is more than fair and a tremendous bang for your $.

The only question for the crew tonight was going to be how high of a score this amazing sandwich was getting. Well, it’s fair to say it is getting the highest scores we both have ever handed out!

Chicken Wing review

At the request of our followers, I decided to head to Rocking Chicken. Now do not be confused by the name, because they advertise themselves as a Latin American Fusion Restaurant. Their menu is wide ranging from Burgers to Tacos to Latin dishes to Wings and Other Chicken. It is also important to point out that it is not a fancy place, it is in an old Long John Silvers building. Which as my Brother pointed out is surprising because LGS never disappear and are like a c**k roach and will likely survive a Nuclear war.

Now in fairness, I had been to Rocking Chicken before and knew what to expect. I ordered the 5 Jumbo Wings and Fries. First it is important to point out that their chicken is baked and then seared on the grill. It is NOT deep fried like your traditional wings you get at a Buffalo Wild Wings or Wingstop. Second, their Jumbo means Jumbo. Using traditional wing standards, when ordering 5 you are actually getting 10. Because one wing is the drummie and the flat, and they are NOT SMALL.

Now that I have prevented you from ordering too much food, a mistake I made the first time, time to get to the review. The fries are very good, just like Rally’s, which I love. The wings themselves are clearly marinated for a period before being finished on the grill. You get 2 sauces with your wings and I went with the spicy BBQ and the Mango Habanero. However, you honestly don’t need the sauces. The wings are so flavorful from the marinade and seasoning they use. I asked them to make mine a little crispy because I like the grill sears on the wings and the crisp skin. I think they forgot to do it, but it didn’t matter because they were great.

Even though you would never predict it, this place might have some of the best wings in the Tri State and they aren’t deep fried. They are right up there with the Smoked Wings I loved at Nisbit. I would definitely recommend giving their Jumbo Wings a try. Especially because it is something unique with the baked and grilled combination. High Score incoming….
