Last month our students took a trip to Humbolt Park in Chicago to visit The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture. The exhibits of the museum express various experiences and art forms from Puerto Rico to the diaspora. The current exhibit on display is Diasporic Collage: Puerto Rico and The Survival of a People, which looked at photography and collage how the Puerto Rican diaspora can be understood as a collage of overlapping histories of colonialism, resistance, and survival. The trip ended at a local restaurant which gave students a chance to try authentic Puerto Rican food. The experience provided students with the opportunity to learn about cultures and history through art and food. Our Rick Marsh Student Cultural Trip Fund provides funds for students to go on trips such as this one, where they are able to learn about art, history, culture, and careers.
