When I was a senior in high school I worked at my brother and sister-in-law‘s restaurant in Loveland on Saturday mornings. My brother Gary, sat in the back on those mornings. He watched over the dining room and made everyone feel welcome as they came in to eat. Both he and his wife greeted their guests with a heartfelt smile. Each person left feeling as though they were truly friends. Gary passed away this last January and I miss him terribly. He made a comment on every social media post, and was a huge support through the years in my career.
When you come into my restaurant, on the east wall beside the bar, there hangs the head of an elk. This was Gary’s elk from a hunting trip years and years ago. His name is Henry. I like to think he is smiling at all of my guests. He reminds me that, alive or not, my brother and his support are with me, and I know that a smile and a kind word are the main things that it really takes to make a business successful. Come in and celebrate Elk Fest oh yeah, you can tell her that you need some with us today… and say hi to Henry.
