This is why Ely is such a special place. When lightning struck and firefighters responded, the whole community rallied to say thank you, and the Ely DQ was proud to be part of it with free cones and sundaes today. Grateful to live somewhere people still show up for each other.

💙💛 Ely Thanks Our Heroes 💛💙

There are no words that can truly express our gratitude for the extraordinary men and women who continue to battle the wildfires across northern Minnesota. For weeks at a time, they leave their own homes and families behind, work long and exhausting days in dangerous conditions, and put themselves in harm’s way to protect our communities, our neighbors, and the places we all cherish.

Today, our hearts are especially heavy as we learned that one of these brave firefighters will not be returning home to their family. We mourn alongside their loved ones, their fellow firefighters, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.

In moments like this, we are reminded of just how much those serving on the fireline sacrifice—and how important it is that they know their communities are standing behind them.

As a small gesture of appreciation and support, Heroes Helping Heroes has partnered with Ely Dairy Queen Grill & Chill to offer a FREE small cone or sundae to all area firefighters, first responders, and support staff who have helped—or are helping in any way—with the July Lightning Fires.

Coming through Ely on your way to or from the fire camps? Stop in and grab a treat for yourself—or pick up some treats to bring back to your crew. We hope it provides a small moment of comfort during what has been an incredibly difficult and demanding time.

This is offered with heartfelt gratitude on behalf of Heroes Helping Heroes, Ely Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, the residents of Ely, our neighboring communities, and people across the great State of Minnesota.

ISO: Bike mechanic needed to get 8 pedal bikes ready for spring/summer riding.

Looking for someone who can: clean and lubricate drivetrains, check and adjust brakes and gears, inspect and inflate tires, tighten loose bolts, and do general safety checks.

Work can be done on-site and scheduled flexibly around your availability.

Please reply with your experience working on bikes, your hourly rate or a flat fee for all 8 bikes, and when you could complete the work. We’d like the tune-ups done within the next two weeks, and we’ll throw in some DQ to sweeten the deal.
