ROOTED TUESDAY- Wildflowers! 🌼🐝

Every year we collect more wildflower seeds, which means every year we have more blooms. They're beautiful, but they do so much more than brighten the landscape.

The flowers provide food and shelter for native pollinators and beneficial insects, making our little corner of the world more biodiverse. We've already noticed an increase in dragonflies, which feed on mosquitoes, gnats, leafhoppers, and other small flying insects, making vineyard work a little more enjoyable. Last year we had an abundance of praying mantises, which are always fascinating to find, along with tiny alligator-looking ladybug larvae that can devour hundreds of aphids before becoming adults.

My favorite creatures on Earth are insects. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, pollinating crops, building healthy ecosystems, and helping produce the food we all depend on. Taking care of them is one of the foundations of good farming and gardening. We wouldn't have much of the food we enjoy without them, so the least we can do is create places where they can thrive.

The smallest creatures DO make a difference and that should be inspiration for each of us to try.
