Today is a hard day for me, the staff, the guests that were there, and all of our guests that supported us and helped out. If you see any of our Rumor Mill Family today please be kind to them-they have made me so proud since day one but especially that night.

This will probably be our last post to this page, but we’re thrilled to share this news! Matt is excited to be back in Howard County working for Joe and Mary Barbera at AIDA Bistro & Wine Bar. The Barberas are hands-on owner operators who are passionate about food, wine, service, and giving back - a perfect match. He can’t wait to cook for all of you again!

If you want to help but don't have a personal contact at an Ellicott City business, we have two suggestions: 1) follow EC businesses' pages to see what their needs are day-to-day and 2) put on your cleanup gear, go to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Ellicott City at or after 4 PM today, and look for Howard County's Disaster Volunteer Management / ESF14 table, where they will match you with a business in need of hands. Hey everyone: St. Peter's was a haven for us after 2016 and if anything they've stepped up efforts this time. They are collecting donations based on needs reported from the community (see below). The church is located at the intersection of Frederick Road and Rodgers Avenue. Please consider donating if you can!

We are heartbroken for all of our friends in Ellicott City tonight. If you are in a position to do so, please donate to flood relief through the Ellicott City Partnership at the link below. The Howard County Food Bank will be accepting donations of water, cleaning supplies, and flashlights TOMORROW, Memorial Day, from 10 AM - 2 PM. We were just thinking that it was time to turn off this page (for now), but then this came across the newsfeed. Many of you no doubt remember Ryan from his multiple stints behind the bar. He is a craft beer savant, has one of the best palates we've ever seen, invented many of the Rumor Mill's most popular cocktails (remember the Galikanouk?), and is a damn pleasure to work with to boot. Today is bittersweet, as we would normally be hosting a giant 10th anniversary party at the Rumor Mill. Instead we have a little update.

We have spent much of the past nine months thoroughly investigating every opportunity that came our way. We are thankful for every property owner and potential partner who contacted us, but nothing felt just right. In the end, we've decided to start a new chapter that puts our family first.

In March, Matthew accepted a state job at the governor's mansion in Annapolis, cooking for the Hogan family and their staff as well as for the many special events Government House hosts each year. Lexi is working on starting a consultancy of her own. And Avery is talking up a storm, running as fast as he can go, and enjoying having both of his parents home way more than ever before.

All that said: we are still and will always be restaurant people. We'll be hosting pop-ups locally in the near future and hope to one day revive our dream, when/if the time becomes right. Mostly though, for today, we wish we could invite all of you down the alley and through the door just one more time, to hoist a cocktail or two and enjoy some food and conviviality together.

Thank you all. We will always feel so lucky to have taught and learned from so many, and to have fed so many dear friends night after night at the Rumor Mill.
