New Year’s Eve Noodles !! 年越しそば

It is a custom for Japanese to reflect on the past year and usher in the coming year, all while enjoying a bowl of hot soba noodles, called Toshikoshi Soba (年越し蕎麦), or year-crossing noodle.

It’s a simple Japanese noodle dish to melt away the hardship of the past year and welcome the journey ahead.

As most of you know, Matcha Time Cafe opened its doors for the Gift Shop in November 2012, and the cafe officially opened in June 2013. ... I think you know where this is going ...

We'd made so many friends, both merchant and customers alike. It's hard to number them all! We've seen relationships start at the cafe. Watched them grow and flourish, couples marry, families start & grow. So many blessings!!! What exciting times!

We had the honor of being welcomed into the Old Ellicott City Community, grow with you, cry with you, and come back after floods, TWICE. We watched as businesses came, and went, and grew and blossomed in our little slice of town. So many changes, but so many things stay the same. We all fear, but at the same time, welcome change.

It's been a great ride, but it's time to get off this one and rest.
Matcha Time Gift Shop is thriving and here to stay on Main Street, but the cafe on Lot D is set to close its doors on December 31, 2023.

To all of our customers: THANK YOU!!!!! We were here for YOU. Without you, we would not have made it this far.

This isn't "good bye." We're still contemplating our next venture, be it in OEC or somewhere else in the area. But for now, we will live on at the Gift Shop. Be sure to stop in and say hello!

June 3rd marks 10 years for the Cafe! On this day, in 2013, we received our final inspection and granted our license to operate!

Over these past 10 years, we’ve had so many great employees, and even greater customers! Without all of you, we wouldn’t be here today!
