I haven't posted for a while because the coffee trailer has been in storage while I was trying to purchase a property, and July 1st was supposed to be the last day to close.

It's been 25 years since I purchase a property, and I'm going to need an amended tax return to properly report before the lender will approve, and the IRS says it could happen anytime between now and September, leaving me no choice but to wait.

Wasted a few thousand dollars finding this out, but it was a great learning experience and now I know what is required, and have taken the steps to do it.

Hopefully, I'll be able to post something positive soon. I can't even fresh roast my coffee myself while the mobile roastery is in storage.

Happy New Year!

Thanks to Pasco County permitting, I was forced to exercise a clause in my lease which allowed me out if I couldn't get permits in 3 months for a changing station, which seems reasonable, but not so much, as my Canadian friends says lol.

The new location is spectacular! It is in storage until likely mid February/March, because instead of connecting to power and using only some stuff on battery, I need to upgrade my solar batteries to handle the roaster, and that will take a few months out of pocket.

Not a big deal, because when it is done I'll be able to do a bunch of things I'd wait a few months to upgrade anyway, but wanted to be bringing in revenue from the trailer while I saved up.

The new location is at the Dunedin Fresh Market! I'll continue to update as we get closer to opening.

I just have a few small remaining "bugs" to work out, but she's largely done. Everything has been tested and works. Battery is looking at giving me slightly more time than I anticipated.

3 more batteries and 1 more inverter, and I'll be able to run the entire trailer, including the roaster, for pretty much an entire day without needing to run the generator. Doing that will require me to build a weatherproof container for the batteries to sit outside on the tongue of the trailer. I found 2x "gull-wing" generator boxes and planning to put them back-to-back, actually going into the inside of the trailer in a couple small areas for ventilation and conduit access. That present a new problem in that my truck will have its tow weight maxed out. It's an elephant you eat one bite at a time.

Was blown away at how quiet the Coffee Crafters Valenta 3 roaster is with the blower in the cabinet below, venting outside. Wasn't even sure it came on at first. My plan is to capture the air from the roaster, which vents from the side of the trailer at around 50-70mph, with a small, 1600-watt wind turbine. 3 hours of roasting should theoretically charge 1 battery full. It won't add any resistance to the blower inside the trailer, only capturing the wind after it has left and would otherwise just be lost back into the environment as energy I paid to create.

Combine the wind turbine with solar on the roof and BBQ porch, which will generate about 2400kw/hr in Florida during the summer, theoretically could power the roaster for about 60lbs of coffee over 3 hours with sufficient batteries, as well as running the blender I'm adding for coffee-based smoothies, the cooler, espresso and ice machine. The best thing is I don't have to take out the milk every night as the cooler will stay cool for weeks, well beyond the expiration of the milk.

It looks like a mess, and in fact, it is, but I've got the battery and gas generators installed, and everything is working. I can control every circuit in the trailer and have several days' worth of backup power for everything but the roaster, which requires a gas generator at the moment, but will be replace with a 2nd battery and inverter that will allow me to run the entire mobile roastery on battery. Solar panels on the roof will be added soon!

My original plan was to get a 200amp charging station installed at my office in New Port Richey. I had a certified electrician do all of the permits, drawings... and submitted to Pasco County nearly 2 months ago. I'd been getting a lot of run-around asking questions about the "food truck" (it's not a food truck, it's a mobile roastery! lol).

I had a Teams meeting with Pasco County, Florida, Government last week, and was told in no uncertain terms, they feel it is their job to, "protect brick and mortar businesses from unfair competition" and I'm not joking. It's illegal and I'll fight it if they persist, but I'll be forced to move to Pinellas County (Tarpon Springs) if they don't allow the charging station permit, and I only have a few days to decide because of my current lease. It's absolutely disgusting behavior that violates that law on charging stations which is regulated by the state and explicitly prohibits attaching additional permit requirements just because of one of the many different EV's that will be using one of the two charging stations, is a battery operated coffee trailer, and this is too much of a threat to "brick and mortar" businesses to allow in Pasco County, according to them. I believe it is the same issue they had with Blockbuster, and that is the property tax revenue a physical store generates that you don't get from a mobile roastery.

I thought the days of our government, "protecting brick and mortar businesses" was over when the lost the Blockbuster vs. Netflix war, and we all know who won that fight. And literally, the only "brick and mortar" business with food services is a strip club, which they apparently want to protect more than a veteran owned mobile roastery. '26 is an election year, so I'll revisit it with them after the New Year from Pinellas County where it will be harder for them to mess with me, because if they will do this to me, they'll definitely mess with me any way they want.

This is coming out really cool. I'll be able to run everything in the mobile roastery off batteries, a gas generator or plugged into any EV charging station and pull up to 80amps, or about 30kw of power (*when plugged in), about 14.4kw on batteries until I can upgrade and add an inverter bringing me to about 21kw on batteries, which well exceeds the needs of the mobile roaster.

I'm installing an 80A J1772 inlet into the bottom of the EcoFlow breaker box and can plug or unplug the trailer and move it as easy as you can a Tesla, and everything inside, like the coolers, AC, outlets... all keep running without so much as a flicker. The batteries for the EcoFlow are stored inside in the cabinet under the roaster.

The setup is coming along great with the exception of the delay in permitting to get the power pole installed, which is why I decided to do this now, which basically involves redoing everything, but it was all done like crap anyway, so it really needed to be done properly and to code.

Oh, and I can manage every breaker, and see where every watt is going, from the app. Even turn a breaker on and off, or tell a breaker to shut off if not needed while on battery.

I think plugging it into the bottom of the breaker box came out fantastic.

Coffee & Cacao tariff's have been lifted. Honestly, I was fine either way, but it's not like this is an industry we can move to the U.S. without creating mountains in Florida lol.

I had debated buying a bunch of green coffee before the trailer was operational, but also didn't want to get stuck at crazy prices like what was going on in Brazile. I bought a few hundred lbs just before the tariffs went into effect of coffee and cacao, and fortunately held off until the trailer was running, which I was planning on purchasing in the next few weeks.

Still working on electrical permit from Pasco County, Florida, Government, and will let you know in the next day or so when I have something to report. It has been quite an enlightening experience thus far.
