Hey community! Pet pack will be here Saturday again with adoptable pups looking for their furrever homes, AND, they will be collecting donations for pets in need who’s families were affected by the Streator tornado last week. 💚

Hey pack! It’s Alyssa!

In times of need, I’ve seen this community come together. Many of us have survived devastating storms, and know how debilitating they can be to our community. Last week a portion of Streator, Illinois was devastated by a tornado. For those of you that went through this in 2013 in the washington tornado you know how significant the impact was on your life. The small community of Streator is now facing this as well. Many of those in the homes on Carriage Lane do not have insurance and they are navigating trying to hold it all together.

I moved to Peoria in 2010, but originally I hail from Ottawa, about 10 to 15 minutes from where the storms hit. I’ve known the animal control officer in Streator for many years. Amy Ragusa is a fantastic human being. We’ve pulled dogs from her in the past and she goes above and beyond to help her community and more ways than one. I asked her how we could help her and she sent me a short list of items that they need. She said people often help in the immediate crisis, but her stockpile is very low. I told her I can’t promise her that we’ll be able to supply much but that we would try. I’m asking members of the pack, members of the Greater Peoria community to consider donating items on the wish list for those they were impacted by the tornadoes in Streator. We will collect donations from now until next Saturday with the intention of delivering them the week of June 21.

Items can be dropped off at 8703 N. University suite F Peoria, IL in our dropbox at your convenience this week. There is also a number on the flyer to text if you need several items picked up. Food, leashes, and collars, and cat litter are most needed. They are supplied on other items at this time.

If you live out of the area, but are in the south suburbs or the Joliet/Morris/Coal City/Minooka area there is a number to text for that as well! Nikki is able to help pick up items that way.

So, the powers out. 🤗 We’ll hang out til 5 to see if it comes back on, if not, we’ll close up for the day. In the meantime. We’re making dog treats in the dark. 🙃
