It’s been a while since this work was done, but we still wanted to shout it from the rooftops (hehe) on how amazing this whole thing has been.
When you buy an old historic beautiful building, you’re committing to lots of repairs, maintenance, and years. Our roof had been leaking for years. Our good friends at New Heights Roofing would come and get us an affordable temporary fix here and there while we saved up enough money to replace the whole thing. While we wish we could have waited another year or two, we just couldn’t. The leaks were getting worse. Enter - Roofing Protectors, LLC out of Streator, IL, owned by Cesar Bolaños.
I literally cannot, CANNOT, say enough amazing things about him and his crew. Not only was the professionalism, paperwork, communication, punctuality, and more communication absolutely incredible, his work was even better. From the day he came to look it over to see if it was in his scope, to the last meeting where we would NOT take final payment until he went through everything they did, WITH PHOTOS and explanations, and a verified approval of satisfactory work, it was stellar from start to finish.
And the cupola, our crown on top of our building. When Cesar told us it was a really big source of the leaks in the front of the building. He gave us options and waited while we decided. We gave the community a chance to share their opinions, (which made us laugh and cringe both!) we decided, you know what, we committed to historic preservation a long time ago with this building, we can’t just stop now. So we saved it. WITH your help through donations, we made 700 dollars and an incredibly generous donation from Java regulars of 3,600. It really made such a difference in being able to do this project this year.
After they finished replacing the roof, and all its complications with some being flat, some being shingled, all of it being weird shapes, his crew got to work on restoring the cupola. The trim was kept, restored and where there were large pieces missing or rotted away, they patched to make it look original. And yes, they even went ALL the way up and painted the flag pole. We could NOT be happier with this big project being done.
