A Venezuelan cachapa with stewed chicken 💕

I became obsessed with cachapas, tequeños, & arepas when I found a little Venezuelan restaurant near my house in OC, and I even brought them some passion fruit from my vines sometimes. I haven't found a place here in El Paso since the few Venezuelan places are from a different region, so I've been trying to figure out how to make their food myself. I've found some great tequeños (Paisa), and I've made a good asado negro several times, but this week I finally made cachapas & stewed chicken that taste "just right"!

Also, we're now available for savory catering for weddings and large parties! For those options, take a look at https://www.stellavsweets.com/cookbook-classes-catering but I always love a challenge if you're craving something specific.

I had some leftover ricotta & salted pecan caramel from a wedding job, so I made a ricotta cheesecake topped with the caramel! I messed with the recipe quite a bit, as usual, but it turned out great :)

New dog treat recipe!

I've noticed that a lot of dog treats have been adding more filler ingredients, and some that were sourced & made in the USA are now coming from other places, plus there have never been enough laws regarding pet products, so I prefer to either make treats for my dogs myself or give them human grade stuff. I know a lot of people are having a tough time right now, so I was experimenting with inexpensive treat ideas, and last night's was a huge hit! 7 out of 7 dogs approved, and even 1 cat loved them! For $4.66, you can make 70-100 treats depending on how small you need them.

Here's the recipe for Turkey Granola Bars:

1) Mash up 1 lb ground turkey (festive brand is $1.98) in a big bowl.
2) Little by little, mix in quick oats (18 oz great value brand is $2.66 - you'll use the entire thing). Add a bit of hot water each time you add oats so they'll soften and will make it easier to incorporate them into the turkey. Once you've added all the oats, let it sit a couple minutes to let the water soak in.
3) Line a big cookie sheet with parchment paper & let the edges hang over the rim a bit. Add the turkey oat mixture and mash it with a big spoon or your hands so it's flat & fills the cookie sheet completely. Score them with a knife (photo in comments) to the size you like.
4) Bake at 325°F for an hour, or until bars are still soft but crunchy on the top.
5) Let it cool then cut them apart. You can store them in the refrigerator or freezer.

Other human-grade treats that 7/7 dogs here approve: low ingredient fish sticks (we like Gorton's), frozen cooked shrimp, low ingredient chicken bits, no sodium chicken broth pupsicles, & peanut butter in a kong toy (make sure it's low ingredient, no xylitol PB). Leo & Enzo love dehydrated sweet potato slices, but unfortunately no one else does. No one likes carrot sticks unfortunately. Every dog has different tastes of course!

You can add ground beef instead, or a little smooth peanut butter if your dogs prefer that :)

Hatch green chile corn chowder is now available for pickup in the upper valley for $5/pint, and it's vegan.
Roasted hatch green chile, corn, potatoes, onion, & carrots are sauteed then cooked in vegetable broth & coconut milk. Everything is blended then more corn & diced potatoes are added for texture. It's got a kick but not too much, so it's more of a medium heat. Contact us here or text 714-553-7373 to arrange pickup.
