It's so important to know your indigenous snakes. Snake does not equal danger every time. And oh boy we we have snakes on the farmstead.

This is Stan, our friendly neighborhood plain bellied watersnake. He's totally harmless. He lives in our pond and sticks his head up to say hi. And, sometimes, when I'm out doing chores he likes scare me by curling up on our paver patio so I drop things and do a special ninja dance. Of course, once I realize it's Stan, I'm not scared anymore. But that's usually after I've dropped a bag of chicken feed or something. I think he gets a chuckle out of my spasto dance
