Small businesses are the heart of our communities.
When a small restaurant, boutique, coffee shop, or service business opens its doors each morning, there's usually a family behind it. The owners live here. Their kids go to school here. They attend local churches, support local organizations, sponsor ball teams and invest their earnings back into the community.
Many people assume big corporations succeed because of superior customer service or products. In reality, they often have something most small businesses can never compete with- a massive marketing budget. They have the resources to put their name everywhere, creating excitement and recognition long before they ever open their doors.
Meanwhile, there are incredible locally owned coffee shops, hamburger joints and businesses in nearly every community. These owners pour their hearts, souls, time and savings into creating something special. They know their customers by name and genuinely care about the people they serve.
Every dollar spent locally has a ripple effect. It helps support local jobs, local families, local schools and the local economy. When small businesses thrive, communities thrive.
Before rushing to the newest national chain, take a moment to think about the impact these large corporations can have when they enter small cities/ towns. Ask yourself: Is the hype worth it when there are already hardworking local businesses serving our community every day?
Support local when you can. Small businesses aren't just businesses, they're neighbors.
