Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at “The Barnacle,” overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing

atmosphere that says “seaside” - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pi***rs), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly. Authenticity was crucial – only without the sea breeze, gulls and scent of saltwater. Lighthouses and other nautical décor highlight the ambience to create a coastal dining experience like none other in the greater Lehigh Valley.

As we continue celebrating our 30th year, we wanted to honor the history of what 4101 William Penn Hwy, Easton, PA 18045 has represented for generations.

For nearly 100 years, this legendary stretch of road — once the original Route 22 — has been more than just a restaurant location. It has been a place where people gathered, celebrated, created traditions, and made memories.

Over the decades, this iconic property evolved through many unforgettable chapters before Jeff and Noreen Mohler introduced Marblehead Chowder House to the Lehigh Valley in 1996. Inspired by the charm and hospitality of coastal New England, Marblehead was built on a simple idea — create a warm, welcoming place centered around great food, homemade chowders, fresh seafood, and lasting memories.

Thirty years later, that vision still lives on.

Today, under the ownership of John Reichard, Marblehead Chowder House proudly continues that legacy into the next generation.

“This building has meant something to this community for decades,” says Reichard. “We’re incredibly proud and blessed to preserve its history while continuing to create new memories and lasting stories for the families who support us year after year.”

To us, Marblehead represents more than seafood and chowder. It represents comfort, tradition, hospitality, and community. While the names on this building may have changed throughout the decades, one thing never has — this location has always brought people together. ⚓

To our guests, families, staff, and community — thank you for being part of our story for the past 30 years. We would love for you to celebrate with us by sharing your favorite memories, stories, or traditions throughout this special year ❤️

EXTRA! EXTRA! 📰 The story doesn’t end with the fire…

After the flames faded and the dust settled…this legendary address did what it’s always done — it rebuilt.

In the early 1970s, a new chapter began… The Cross Timber Inn.

Owned and operated by Charlie Chrin, the property came back to life with a fresh vision along with an additional dining room added in June of 1971.

By early 1973, the restaurant evolved changing hands once again. The guys from the Key City Diner in P'Burg (Tony, Teddy and Gus) took the reins, continuing its legacy as a gathering place along Route 22.

After every transition and setback this location never stayed quiet for long.

⚓ Reinvented. Reimagined. Reopened.

👇 Do you remember the Cross Timber Inn?
👇 A dinner, a celebration, a night out?

📸 We’re still uncovering pieces of the past—
if you have photos or memories, we’d love to share them.
