This week I attended the premiere of Paulina in Ch*****ne, a short film by Mark Anthony that tells the story of Paulina Schemanski’s most recent visit to the Ch*****ne region. Paulina is the GM and sommellier of Mabel Gray in Hazel Park, and she has a gift for wrapping her extensive knowledge in a warm and welcoming package. I was thrilled to tag along on that trip, and it was amazing to see the people and the countryside through Mark Anthony’s lens projected on a big screen.

I’ve been friends with James for a while now, but it’s been fun to see the Fitz and Mabel staff get to know each other over the years. Our annual Labor Day dinners are a big part of that, and we’ll once again be hosting them on September 7th. The Mabel menu is as follows:

We’ll also have most of our dishes available. Small tables are very limited, but there are more options for parties of 4-6. We’ve decided that the impending spring weather calls for a change up. We’re moving away from burgers for a while and are going to be running a Tiki event starting on Wednesday this coming week! We’ll be featuring some fun food items like Loko Moko, which features a smoked hamburger patty with gravy and a fried egg over white rice. Trust us, it rules. There’ll also be killer shareables like Bahn Mi sliders, shrimp skewers and a passionfruit tres leches for dessert.

Obviously there have to be some serious cocktails, and we’ve got them in spades. Heavy hitters like a Zombie and a Lost Lake will be joined by the light and playful Saturn or a rum old fashioned if you’re feeling something that’s more singularly spirit driven. We’re hoping to at least run this menu through Friday, but when an item is gone it’s gone, so come early and bring some friends to share with!
