Fourteen years ago, I opened a little shack on Mangum Street with a dream: serve fresh, honest North Carolina seafood with love, integrity, and purpose. You helped turn that dream into a community.
To our North Carolina fishermen and fishing families—THANK YOU. Your early mornings, hard work, sacrifice, and generations of knowledge make what we do possible. It is an honor to cook your catch and share your story.
To our loyal Durham community and everyone who has traveled to eat with us—THANK YOU. You stood in line, brought your people, spread the word, and kept coming back. Through every season, your support has kept our doors open and our purpose strong.
To every SALTBOX employee, past and present—THANK YOU. Your hands, care, dedication, and pride are part of every plate and every guest’s experience. These 14 years belong to you, too.
This journey has given me the honor of authoring the SALTBOX Seafood Joint cookbook and being recognized by the James Beard Foundation. Both milestones carry the contributions of our fishing families, our employees, and this community. You helped make them possible.
I may have opened the doors, but I have always considered myself the steward of SALTBOX. YOU have been its saving grace and its ultimate sustainers.
When I look at SALTBOX, I see all of you.
