Day off activities: File a police report for property damage and attempted larceny. They tried to steal my generator from my food truck.

Context: This happened overnight at the commercial kitchen where I rent in Durham near NCCU. I’d say at least half of the food trucks here have been broken into, vandalized, had their generators and/or other property stolen. Last year my generator was among 5-6 that were stolen over multiple incidents. Extremely frustrating, food truck owners here have gotten clear images of the suspects in the past, filed countless police reports, dealt with negligent landlords, just keeps happening. Doesn’t feel like we’re a priority.

Over the past two years, this same location has been hit probably 10 times! We’re small business owners, we’re resilient, we’ll do what we can and keep going regardless. Food trucks are a big part of the Durham community. What’s it going to take to get a little help over here? P.S.- No, the solution is not for food trucks here to pick up and go somewhere else (this is the advice I’ve been getting). We pay taxes, we’re law-abiding citizens, community members. We should be heard and protected.

And No, this is not the most pressing issue in the grand scheme of things but it matters and being quiet about it solves nothing. Please share
