Maryanne Pastry Shoppe Doylestown Adolph and Elsie were immigrants from Germany and arrived in America in the 1940’s. In 1967, Adolph and Elsie retired and sold the bakery in Germantown.

The History of Maryanne Pastry Shoppe

Maryanne Pastry Shoppe first opened its doors in 1944 in Germantown, Pennsylvania, with Adolph and Elsie Kuttler as original proprietors. Adolph continued the trade he learned in Germany and opened his own bakery, calling it Maryanne Pastry Shoppe. The original shop was located at the corner of Chelten Avenue and Boyer Street. Adolph and Elsie had one son, He

rb, who assisted the business and learned the trade from his father. Adolph baked all of the store’s pastry from scratch with the help of his son. While the two men baked in the back of the bakery, Elsie tended store, often providing families with the basic staple of bread in times of need. The bakery served only the finest quality baked goods and customers were even treated to homemade ice cream mixed by Herb. Ironically, young Herb met a wonderful young lady named Mariann Keenan who he eventually wed in December of 1967. Elsie and Mariann joined forces in the storefront while the men were busy baking in the back. Herb and Mariann then continued the bakery tradition and opened their own shop on 44th Street in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. Maryanne Pastry Shoppe prospers at its Jersey Shore location and celebrates over 25 years in the Sea Isle community. The bakery is open every summer and continues to serve only the finest quality baked goods. Herb and Mariann have been blessed with nine children. The children all help in some fashion at the business down the shore, and now at the bakery’s new location in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Herb and Mariann have dreamed of a business in the town in which they raised their family. Now, thanks to the family, the dream has become a reality.
