SAPPY SUNDAY POST 🚨 Today, The Bend had several guests that shared a deep connection with not only the East Village District Tulsa but also Bohemian Pizza Tulsa Hodges Bend Tulsa Lowood Modern Woodfire 💓 For whatever reason as I was opening the shop today, I saw the Hodges hat hanging on the old elevator shaft in the shop, and decided to throw it on. As the day unfolded, I met new people, chatted with regulars, and there was something palpable in the air. There’s a history in the East Village that spans so far…it’s fascinating, and about two years ago I began scratching the surface.
So why am I posting about this?
The story that must be acknowledged first and foremost is the Mvskoke nation land that our space resides upon—ancestral lands. 🫶 Were it not for your stewardship, we would not be here.
Hodges Bend, Lowood—places that people held so many memories. People who lived and worked above them. It was so tragic to see the fire that brought its physical story to an end. 😢 It’s also to acknowledge my fellow neighbors that call the East Village home. There’s magic in this pocket of the world, and The Bend is damn proud to be a little part of that.
Another reason is that as a Tulsa native, I grew up with some of the characters that played several roles in bringing a vibe to the EV. I am grateful for what you’ve done and continue to do, always cheering you on. I can only imagine the dreams and late nights you had getting off the ground.
Now, here we are with this little spot in the EV. And I am so giddy with excitement about what is to come. Thank you to everyone who supports us and gets what we are building at The Bend. 🫶🥹
Some trivia…
🚀 The astronaut print is from the bar at Lowood. I was able to salvage it after the fire. I left it exactly as I found it, but later added gold leaf to the mask.
🚪 Our front door was salvaged from Lowood before they demolished the site.
🎞️ Our connection to S.E. Hinton and the history from Rumblefish and The Outsiders only adds to the uniqueness of this space. Our espresso machine is lovingly named “Susie.” 🥰 Thanks to Danny The Outsiders House Museum museum for your support of the shop.
