Microchips are so important to reuniting a pet back with their family!
BUT they only work if a couple of things happen…
1. The information on the chip is up to date so someone will respond if called
2. That chip is scanned!

Today, Duncan got very lucky that a Good Samaritan took him to VEG ER for Pets on camelback after he was seen limping and they scanned him for a chip. He had been missing since February and his family had put up posters around their neighborhood and posted on nextdoor. Duncan had gone about 2 miles away from his home and just sort of fit in with the colonies in the area. He was already ear tipped since he was a previous TNR so no one really batted an eye if he was hanging around. While it’s unfortunate that he got hurt, it really is the thing that allowed him to be reunited because he probably wouldn’t have been scanned for his chip otherwise.

We don’t know where he’s spent the past few months, but we do know in the most recent weeks he was being fed and cared for by the loving person who took him into the vet. He sure had a lot to say after his grand adventure, even if we couldn’t understand a word 😹

Please, please make sure your pet is microchipped with up to date contact information and if any new cat shows up in your area (especially if they are friendly even if already ear tipped) please take them to be scanned just in case they are looking for their way back home 💜

How many cats do you think are actually in this photo? I’ll give you a hint…it’s not just the 3 in front of the bed!
Often times when we tell people how many cats are in the lounge they don’t always believe us because there are several cats who visitors will never see.
In this photo there are 5 cats that all came from the same hoarding situation. They often hang out all together or will split off into smaller groups. None of these guys are available for adoption quite yet as we are still working through some medical things with a couple of them and of course trying to assess their true personalities, likes and dislikes, etc in order to make sure they go to homes that are the best fit for them.
