This is a hard post to write… 💔

Pumpkin was a cat who I don’t necessarily think ever actually liked me—but I do think she knew I was always there to help her.

When she came to the cafe over 4.5 years ago, she became the beginning of what I lovingly call my “feral friends.” She didn’t let people near her, would sprint away if you looked at her wrong, and spent most of her time perched safely on a shelf. But she was always unproblematic with the other cats and became such a special part of our cafe.

Over the years, she learned to trust people just a tiny bit. She was even adopted for almost a year before being returned due to a move. We welcomed her back, even though she was still completely untouchable.

The first time she allowed someone to pet her, I knew something was wrong. She ended up needing full-mouth extractions due to stomatitis. But then she went back to her aloof Pumpkin ways.
Then, when she started letting people pet her again. I *really* knew something was wrong.

Bloodwork and ultrasounds showed possible IBD or early lymphoma. Eventually, she began allowing anyone—even strangers—to pet her. Everyone was excited, but I knew that wasn’t Pumpkin. Something was changing.

Most recently, she developed ringworm and had to be isolated, thats when we discovered she had rapidly lost weight and was having liquid stools. Repeat bloodwork confirmed our fears: full-blown lymphoma.

Today, we made the incredibly difficult decision to let Pumpkin cross the rainbow bridge. 🌈

She may not have been cuddly. She may never have loved people the way other cats do. But she mattered. She was loved. And for over 4.5 years, she had a safe place to land and people who would never give up on her.

Thank you to everyone who was part of Pumpkin’s life, whether you gave her treats, respected her boundaries, celebrated her tiny victories, or simply loved her from afar. 💜

And thank you to Roadrunner Relief for helping make her final transition peaceful and sparing her the stress of a scary carrier.

Rest easy, sweet girl. You were loved more than you ever probably realized. 💜🌈

We do a TON of laundry at both locations and recently both the washer and dryer at the downtown location have been acting up. So we are in search of a new washer and dryer to replace our current ones.
If you know anyone maybe moving and getting rid of their set, we’d love if they would consider donating it for the kitties!

Matcha is being entertained by DeeDee and Dexter this after at our north location! They are just visiting for a couple of hours this afternoon until about 4:30 or 5 to get some socialization and maybe meet their furever home!

These tiny babies are ready to go home!
At 4 months old, they are much smaller than your average kittens so definitely need a home that is going to monitor their growth as they get older to make sure they continue gaining weight and stay healthy. They have both been fixed, had 2 rounds of vaccines so far, are microchipped and dewormed.
Who do you know looking for a sweet pair?!? They are too young to be in the lounge and are currently in a foster home. We will be setting up meet and greets this weekend for serious adopters!

It’s 🐈‍⬛ and we love our black cats around here (and usually have quite an abundance of them available for adoption!) ...

It’s 🐈‍⬛ and we love our black cats around here (and usually have quite an abundance of them available for adoption!)
This handsome guy is Edgar and he is one of the sweetest guys around! He gets along with everyone at our north Phoenix location and is pretty versatile on the home he would do best in. While he doesn’t have experience with dogs we think his confidence and chill personality could do well with a cat friendly dog. He would do okay in a home with older children, but doesn’t love hands on his face so little kids are not the best fit.
Come by next week and visit with him- you’ll probably find him hanging next to his humidifier 😻
