Eden Brent, 2026 BMA winner for the Koko Taylor Award for Best Female Traditional Blues Artist, returns to the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday!! Eden is widely recognized as one of the premier blues piano players in the world. Eden won the prestigious Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year award in 2025. She won the Blues Music Award for “Best Acoustic Blues Album” and “Best Acoustic Blues Performer” for her cd “Mississippi Number One” in 2009. She was the solo artist winner of the 2006 International Blues Challenge. I think you catch my drift. The lady is a winner all the way! If she hasn’t already won your heart, come on out to the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. to get baptized.

Eden is a native of the Mississippi Delta (Greenville) who has taken the blues world by storm with her gutsy piano playing and singing style. This lady can rock, swing, and croon with the best. You definitely will not be disappointed with her show. My favorite description of her talent is captured in “Bessie Smith meets Diana Krall meets Janis Joplin". Besides all that talent, the woman is what my grandma would have called “a mess”. She loves to have fun and wants you to have fun right along with her. You don’t want to miss this show! Eden has a new cd coming out this Fall. Maybe she will preview some of her new material for us!!!

Georgia Songbird EG Kight and her Trio return to THE CAPITOL OYSTER BAR for special new cd release party!! The Trio’s latest cd, Sticks and Strings, debuted at #10 on the Billboard Blues Chart and has earned wide acclaim from blues and college radio fans. EG is a long-time favorite with her sweet and sassy vocals and stinging guitar, and her trio consists of Ken Wynn, guitar and vocals; and, Gary Porter, percussion and harmonica.

With her rich vocals, well-crafted songs, and inimitable sense of humor, Kight has entertained on stages around the world, and has received various music industry nominations, including seven for Female Artist of the Year, three for Song of the Year, and two for Album of the Year, which includes THE TRIO SESSIONS record, released in 2021. A notable songwriter, many artists have recorded Kight’s songs, including her dear friends Koko Taylor and Dorothy Moore. Her songs have ended up on Grammy nominated albums, on four major TV networks, and in a movie. "...a combination of sensual restraint, deadly accurate pitch, and perfectly placed and emotive accentuation.” – Edmonton Journal "...her rendering of Leonard Cohen's ‘Hallelujah.’ It's the finest version I've ever heard. ...a chills-inducing listen." - Blues Music Magazine

EG emerged as a preeminent voice in blues and roots music since switching to blues after hearing the late, great Koko Taylor, and has received various music industry nominations, including seven for Female Artist of the Year, three for Song of the Year, and two for Album of the Year. Most special to EG is her nomination for the Blues Foundation’s “Koko Taylor Award” as the top female blues artist.

GRAMMY nominee and BMA-winner Danielle Nicole plays the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Danielle has one of the most powerful natural blues voices I have ever heard. I don’t miss any opportunity to see her perform! You shouldn’t either!!!
Danielle is coming to us hot off winning two more Blues Music Awards – Contemporary Blues Artist and Vocalist of the Year – two weeks ago at the 2025 Blue Music Awards program in Memphis. That makes a total of eight BMAs, plus a Grammy nomination for Danielle and the band!!!
Danielle has been singing and playing the blues since she was 12 years old. At fourteen, she began sitting in with her father’s blues band in Kansas City restaurants and bars (the ones that would allow minors, anyway). She went on to form her own successful blues band as a teenager, and then joined with her brothers, Nick and Kris, to form Trampled Under Foot, a powerhouse blues trio that won the 2008 International Blues Challenge and the 2014 Blues Music Award as the “Best Contemporary Blues Band”. Danielle had to learn bass so that they could form the family band – she learned well, and has won an incredible 4 Blues Music Awards as the best bass player in the business!!

As good as she is on the bass, Danielle has a compelling vocal delivery that can range from a passionate ballad to a rocking blues with depth and ease. I was impressed with TUF when they first took the stage at the IBC finals, and then Danielle opened her mouth and just dropped my jaw (literally). I think her voice was best described by the late Koko Taylor: “That girl gets downt to the nitty gritty.”

The Danielle Nicole Band consists of Danielle on bass and vocals, Brandon Miller on guitar, and Go-Go Ray on drums. They are a fantastic blues/soul/funk trio with a very special chemistry between Danielle’s vocals and bass and Brandon’s guitar that creates a real sense of awe. This is one that you absolutely should not miss!!!

Brody Buster will be opening the show with his one-man band. Brody is a noted multi-instrumentalist who came in second in the 2015 IBC solo/duo contest. I remember that performance and thought that he was the best musician in that show. I look forward to seeing him live again!!

Check her out the title cut of her last cd here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrOkW08km5Q and then this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6mdk1S3jOk. And here she is doing a medley of “I’d Rather Go Blind” and “Tennessee Whiskey”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk-pL6FVmss. I think you can understand what her producer said to me when I asked him about her last album: “She made me cry…” I can’t wait to get my ears on it!!

And check out Brody here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh0RqvHGYoQ.

If this isn’t the best show of the year at COB, I can’t wait to hear what tops it! Music starts at 4:00 p.m. Cover charge is $15.00. More info at www.capitoloysterbar.

Watermelon Slim and Heavy Drunk team up at COB this Sunday for a real Mississippi Delta Blues experience!! We are long-time fans of multi-award-winning Watermelon Slim who was perhaps best summed up by the late Jerry Wexler (co-owner Atlantic Records, producer for Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin) who described him as “a one-of-a-kind, pickin’ n singing Okie dynamo”. He is a 2-time winner of the Blues Music Award for Band of the Year and Album of the Year, as well as a two-time winner of MOJO Magazine’s no. 1 Blues Album of the Year. Slim has a very interesting back story that includes Massachusetts, Vietnam, trucking and watermelon farming. Oh, and he is member of MENSA.

HeavyDrunk will be making their first appearance at COB. The band, led by front man Rob Robinson, has made waves with their signature raspy vocals and Americana infused sound. Robinson is a native of Louisiana who moved to Nashville, and then to down to Leipers Fork to take over Puckett’s Restaurant where he established a weekly Blues Jam and booked a variety of blues, roots and Americana music. It is from this mishmash that the band derives their Mississippi delta blues, powerful gospel, and hard-hitting rock ‘n’ roll energy that charges their music and their live performances!

This promises to be a memorable show that you will not want to miss!! Grayson Capps will be coming back to perform at the Capitol Oyster Bar this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Grayson is a native (and current) Alabamian, but I first heard him during his stint as a resident of New Orleans. Grayson is now moved back to Alabama (with his Grammy award winning record engineer/producer wife, Trina Shoemaker). Grayson is a gifted songwriter and singer who finds his music in the roots of southern culture. He sums his approach to songwriting as “I write songs which have the voice of dead prophets masquerading as town drunks screaming 'look at us we're pretty, too!'"

Corky Hughes will be performing with Grayson this Sunday. Corky is a former rock guitar star, having toured nation-wide with the renowned southern rock group Black Oak Arkansas. After moving back to his native Alabama he began a collaborative creative association with Grayson that has led to several albums and their involvement with the roots super group Sugarjane Capps.

Although a departure from our usual Sunday blues bands, this is a show that you will not want to miss!! Check out his music here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC3Qu5JyagQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRrfhsQ-3o and here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HD5OqcOZ7pM

Blues Hall Of Famers Lil' Ed & The Blues Imperials will celebrate the release of their 10th Alligator Records album, Slideways, with a live performance at the Capitol Oyster Bar on Sunday, April 26, 2026. For nearly 40 years together, Lil’ Ed Williams and The Blues Imperials—bassist (and Ed’s half-brother) James “Pookie” Young, guitarist Mike Garrett and drummer Kelly Littleton—have been delivering gloriously riotous, intensely emotional, wickedly playful Chicago blues to audiences around the world. Lil’ Ed—like his musical forebearers, slide guitar masters J.B. Hutto (Ed’s uncle), Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor—is a giant of the genre.

Enjoy this lyric video from their latest cd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp68ok-nFyE&list=RDSp68ok-nFyE&start_radio=1 and this medley of Jimmy Reed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG3nkDPUEdM&list=PL9A2DC920F3A6D813&index=8
