Next Thursday, Sequoia “Redwood” Snyder returns to Moondog with her trio in celebration of the release of her latest recording entitled Inner Knowing.

The Washington DC native musician, composer, producer & singer studied music at MSU and was mentored by Detroit jazz luminaries Rodney Whitaker and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Redwood has been highly active the past few years, showcasing her work as a bandleader in NYC and DC jazz programs while also rooting herself in the current culmination and zeitgeist of creative music in Detroit.

For her release party at Moondog, she’ll be joined by top tier percussionist/producer Caleb Robinson and bassist/producer Matt Ryan.

Doors will open at 7pm with a full album listening experience at 8 and live set to follow. Advance tickets are available now on our Linktree for $15, or in-store at Moondog! 2 duos embark! Rhythm, poetry and a holy rumble of new sonic horizons ~~~

Liberation Technology is a disenfranchised American duo formed in Cleveland by artists RA Washington (RA Washington) and Messiah In Glytch (Scott Lott). The duo blends rap, noise and electronic music into a hybrid nod to free improvisation and ecstatic Jazz traditions.

Detroit drummer/improvisor Djallo Djakate’s long-standing Inner Ear project reconstitutes as a duet with legendary saxophonist Tony Holland (Griot Galaxy) signing on to transmit the frequency.

Tapping ancient technologies capable of eliminating agents of hopelessness and despair, the evening exercises the realization of spirit through musical consciousness and divination. Will you be present when the portal swings open? You are invited.

Three wayfaring, currently Californian singer-songwriters Tom Henry & The Honeys, Jeff Moller and Michael James Tapscott land in Detroit for an evening of songs and musical sketches. Joining in support is Heavy Gift, a local all-star duo composed of singer-songwriter Fred Thomas (Fred Thomas) and violist/composer Indira Edwards (indira).

Native Chicagoan & power pop disciple Tom Henry (Tom Henry & the Honeys) tours on the release of his latest LP “What’s Left.”

Multi-instrumentalist Jeff Moller (Jeff Moller) steps out on his own after years as sideman with Sugar Candy Mountain, Papercuts and many other ensemble projects.

Michael James Tapscott (Michael James Tapscott) creates experimental folk music under a variety of monikers including Odawas, More Animals of the Arctic and Pacific Walker, to just name a few.

Together, they tour under the banner of their Oakland-based record label Royal Oakie (Royal Oakie Records).

Brooklyn-based spectral folk artist Anastasia Coope (Anastasia Coope🪆) arrives in Detroit for an offering of live sonics.

Supported by the exceptional talents of Detroit musical artists and Moondog fam — a duo of Ben Hall (Like if SpongeBob n' Tupac had a baby, fr tho.) + Indira Edwards (indira) as well as a solo set from guitarist/engineer Erik Maluchnik.

Doors open at 7 with sets at 8/9/10. Tickets will be available at the door only for $15.

On Sunday, September 27, we welcome Baltimore native cornetist, educator and writer Taylor Ho Bynum to Moondog along with a Midwest chapter of a group he’s dubbed Spider Monkey Dreams.

Serving as a lead-up to Kerrytown Concert House’s 30th annual Edgefest in Ann Arbor, Ho Bynum convenes with old friends and collaborators to join him in revisiting 2 albums he recorded under the Spider Monkey Strings moniker.

Joining him on stage is violinist Jason Kao Hwang, cellists Jeff Song & Daniel Lin, vocal artist Deanna Relyea and contrabass clarinestist Piotr Michalowski.

Big thanks to Edgefest for organizing this performance! Please join us for this unique, early Sunday evening foray into spontaneous & ageless music!

Detroit native multi-instrumentalist Alex Harding returns with a trio of legends for an evening traveling the spaceways into new sonic dimensions at Moondog Café. Joined by two of Detroit’s most devoted and adventurous improvisers—percussionist Djallo Djakate and double bassist Jaribu Shahid—Harding will wield his baritone saxophone through collective rhythms and streams of consciousness.

Harding, once a student of Yusef Lateef at Detroit’s Northwestern High School, is a go-to saxophonist who has played with everyone from Donald Byrd and Aretha Franklin to Muhal Richard Abrams and the Sun Ra Arkestra. We look forward to hearing this incredible trio let their sound unfurl.

They’ll be joined by special guest Detroit harpist, vocalist and producer AnJelic for a solo set exploring her growing repertoire. AnJelic is a classically-trained harpist within Detroit’s rich history of harp innovators such as Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane. We welcome her back to Moondog for her first of back-to-back performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Detroit native vocalist, musician, producer and founder of Truth Manifest Records, Malik Alston brings his Linwood Ensemble to Moondog Café for an evening celebrating a series of recordings he’s entitled “Beyond Jazz.”

Alston is a musical devoteé, whether he’s DJing or performing live, Alston’s work weaves uplifting Black music with themes of faith and community. From early years singing in church and community choirs to collaborating on productions with Amp Fiddler, Roy Davis Jr., Alton Miller and many others, Alston’s musical knowledge goes deep.

“Beyond Jazz” is a 4-part album series showcasing Alston’s spiritual soul & jazz-inflected house & dance constructions, born out of Alston’s long-standing radio show that bears the same name.

Serving as our welcome show to music fans attending the 2026 annual Detroit Jazz Festival, we’re thrilled to honor Malik Alston’s unique legacy as a Detroit music-maker.

He’ll be joined by the latest iteration of The Linwood Ensemble which includes his wife Badriyyah on vocals & auxiliary percussion, Damon Williams on drums, Ben Green on trumpet & wind synth, Rafael Leafar on sax, flute and EWI, Tim Shellabarger on bass and Alston himself on keys and vocals. Trust this band will go OFF … so come prepared for the ecstatic vibrations!

Search Party is a new phenomenon of Detroit musical imagination and legacy. Composed of DJ/producer Max Watts (Limited Network), trumpeter Allen Dennard (Allen Dennard) and multi-instrumentalist Kasan Belgrave (baskasanball), the trio collaborate in the space between machine music, turntablism and instrumental improvisation. Rooted in the vernacular of Techno and Hi-Tech Jazz, Search Party is a highly anticipated new exponent of Detroit underground music.

Electronic artist, producer, DJ and Detroit legend Bileebob (John Bileebob Williams) offers up the first live set of the evening, gracing Moondog’s stage for the first time.

We’re also most honored to welcome DJ/producer John F.M. (John FM) to the space. John will be threading the needle—selecting music before, between and after live sets.
