FoodPlus|Detroit envisions a metropolitan food system that produces, processes and distributes food that is abundant, safe, healthy, affordable and accessible, while conserving energy, water and soil, opening economic opportunities for the many and enhancing diversity and social justice in the community. Our mission is to facilitate and accelerate a more sustainable metropolitan food system. You're invited to join me this weekend (9/19 & 9/20) to celebrate Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network (DBCFSN)
20th anniversary at the annual harvest festival. I will be co-hosting compost conversations (1:30 - 3:00pm) and facilitating hands-on compost training (3-6pm). Come and see first-hand how FoodPLUS Detroit and Doers Edge are helping Detroit urban farms build capacity to compost and to achieve "soil sovereignty".

Today I'll be serving on a panel sharing what it looks like to design and develop pathways for food system leadership through collaborative experiences hosted in community. A "Dream Tank" experience was hosted in Detroit by "Racial Equity in the Food System (REFS)" bringing academic fellows and community leaders together to explore collaborative approaches to achieving local food sovereignty. Panelists include REFS members Brandy Phipps, Kolia Souza; community leader Romondo Woods II and the INFAS fellows.

May 5th Celebrating International Compost Awareness Week in Detroit. Check out this love note from a participant in the Detroit Compost Program Pilot (sponsored by the City of Detroit Office of Sustainability). Today and everyday we thank and appreciate all of the participants for a commitment to "collect clean" (food scraps) for "clean compost". Today, we celebrate you and your contributions.
