Be safe out there!

The Lakewood Police Department wants to inform our residents about a growing national crime trend called Jugging. This is a form of robbery where a suspect follows a victim immediately after they leave a financial institution (banks, ATMs, check-cashing stores) to their next location, where they are then robbed of their cash.

Jugging happens when:

- You are followed after leaving a bank, ATM, or check-cashing store.

- The suspect demands money, often with threats of violence or assault.

- Cash or cash bags are visible as you leave.

Stay Safe - Look for Suspicious Behavior:

- Be aware of vehicles loitering near bank parking lots.

- Watch out for any vehicle that seems to be conducting surveillance (stationary or mobile).

- If you notice a vehicle that appears to be following you, drive to a well-lit, populated area, or the nearest police or fire station.

Protect yourself: After making a transaction, be discreet with your cash and remain vigilant of your surroundings. If you see suspicious activity, or believe you are a victim of this crime, call 911 immediately.

Humor for the Day!

Taco Bell’s push to speed up service with voice AI has become a high-tech headache instead. Launched in 2023 at over 500 locations, the system was supposed to reduce human error and move drive-thru lines faster. Instead, it’s created viral moments of absurdity—like one customer tricking it into ordering 18,000 water cups, and another stuck in a loop as the AI wouldn’t stop suggesting drinks, even when he was already ordering a Mountain Dew. One especially chaotic exchange hit 21.5 million views, showing just how quickly the internet has turned these misfires into entertainment.

Even Taco Bell’s Chief Digital & Tech Officer admits the tech still stumbles, saying that while it occasionally impresses, humans remain the go-to during busy rushes. The chain says its AI has handled over 2 million orders, but what people remember are the glitches. McDonald’s has already scrapped a similar AI effort after fiascos involving unwanted bacon on desserts and massive nugget totals. For now, Taco Bell continues its rollout, hoping the promise of automation eventually outweighs the punchlines.
