Our bakery-cafe's hat has travelled all the way to Domaine des Tournels in Ramatuelle, Golfe de Saint-Tropez, Côtes de Provence. Katherine held a "stage" with Chef Pascal Rippert all those years ago. Chef Pascal travels quite a bit and we still keep in touch with him and his lovely family. This is one of their favorite campgrounds!

This vineyard looks magical! Domain viticole familial dupuis 1920.

Putting this on our must visit list!

As I came to work today, I was not able to use the "open" half of Ohio Avenue due to a large delivery truck being in the way. As I was backing out from Ohio, there was another large truck preparing to turn in with materials.

And there was a food truck in the alley itself blocking access.

We were notified that half of Ohio would be closed for one month (the half between the alley and University Boulevard), but it does seem like someone should do a better job of monitoring this madness.

Our restaurant – Katherine’s French Bakery & Café – is a day concept where we share operating hours with the construction personnel. Even so, it is crucial that our customers have as much access to our business as possible.

This construction project has had a large impact on access to our business.

It would be so helpful if someone at i-Kota or Alpine would monitor and manage blockages and not let them persist.

I do wonder why large delivery trucks can’t get immediate access to the closed portion of Ohio or come in from the other side via University?

Workers parking on Bonnie Brae Boulevard has lessened (probably because of contractor education), but some contractors unload materials while on the Boulevard, taking up valuable parking spaces.

We would like to say thank you to our long-time customer (in-house and via Grubhub): Brian F.

He's a fan of our chicken salad sandwich on marble rye, with a side of potato salad.

He sent us an email to let us know there was a quality problem with our marble rye bread.

True. Our bread supplier for many years, Aspen Bakery, had suddenly closed their doors and our attempt to fix the problem with a second vendor did not work out.

With some quick research, we decided to bring breads in from Bluepoint Bakery (a local supplier).

Much improved!

Window boxes make everything look even prettier!

To our wonderful customers:

Thank you for your constant caring and continued support of our family-owned and operated business.

Things are always changing, even here in Bonnie Brae. With construction of a 3-story residential/retail project at Ohio Avenue and University Boulevard, we have experienced many months of street and alley closures which, in turn, have caused traffic issues and disruptions to our business.

Again, tomorrow, most of Ohio Avenue and the alley are closed to foot and vehicle traffic.

These closures (from 7am to 5pm) occur during our hours of operation.

It has been very hard on our business.

One of our customers recently picked up her cake order and stated: “You are lucky to still be open.” I asked why. She said: “Because I had to circumnavigate the neighborhood just to get to your parking lot.”

I-Kota (general contractor) has finally placed us in the loop of notifications for street and alley closures (by way of a memo taped to our front door the night before said events).

The developer, Alpine, has met with us twice to state their willingness to make things work as best as possible.

With only one true access point for drivers coming north on University Boulevard, it’s tricky. Those walking can park on Bonnie Brae Boulevard and use that portion of the alley to walk in.

We appreciate any means by which you make it to our business.

We are open Wednesday through Sunday from 7am to 3pm.

It’s a guessing game to know when Ohio Avenue and the alley will or will not be open.

So…when we see your smiling face…we will be so appreciative and thankful and grateful that you made it to us during this time.

You mean the world to us.
