In 1997, Tia Maria and Uncle Joe partnered up and opened Tia Maria Mexican Restaurant on 72nd Pecos St. They agreed the partnership would not be long term. Tia Maria was successfuly opened for 24 years. In 2020 when Covid hit, and along came many restrictions on restaurants, Tia Maria was no longer a viable business. Maria made the difficult decision that after 24 years it was time to retire.

In 2002, Uncle Joe opened his own restaurant, Los Dos Potrillos in Centennial. His business became an instant success and as the years followed, he opened 4 locations and 2 food truck concepts. Los Dos Potrillos continues to grow with more locations and new concepts coming soon. Los Dos Potrillos shares the menu with Tia Maria and has expanded the menu, offering a large variety of dishes Tia Maria did not have such as the taquiza and parillada familiar. Los Dos Potrillos bar menu also offers a great selection of house brewed beers and amazing margaritas. You will find the vast majority of your favorite dishes such as the chile relleno nachos, burritos, combinations along with many more at Los Dos Potrillos. Tia Maria is honored to have ties with Los Dos Potrillos and is excited about the future growth including it’s latest concept, Los Dos Potrillos Cocina Y Cantina.

Dear valued guests:

It is with a heavy heart to say that due to covid-19, the rising costs of labor and the extremely inflated rising costs of goods, Tia Maria is no longer a viable business. Taking these factors into consideration, we have decided after 24 years of service, to close our doors permanently.

With that said, we would like to express our sincere gratitute to all of our wonderful guests. Many of whom we have become friends with. We consider all of you a part of our family. We could have not gone through this journey with out your support along the way. We are truly thankful for your support and kind words through out the years and will cherish the memories more than you know.

We will miss the laughter of our guests, the cries of the kids we have seen grow up in here, and of course we will miss serving you here or providing our food for your table at home.

To our wonderful staff, thank you is not enough for your years of loyal service. For standing beside us through the ups and downs through out the years. We consider ourselves the lucky ones to have served beside you. You have trully been a blessing.

As one chapter closes and another one opens, we wont say good bye because you never know what the future may bring. We will however say until next time.

Tia Maria has hung her apron for the last time. We can now say Tia Maria is officially retired!

Thank you for everything!! We love you mom!! Your retirement is more than well deserved! You are truly an angel! Enjoy your retirement!

Thank you all for a great weekend! Although things are not what our “normal” used to be, we hope everyone enjoyed dining in. This was different for us as well and we will continue to learn as we go. Thank you evryone for your patience and as always your continued support! It was a pleasure serving you and we will see you again soon!!
