These faces probably don’t need much of an introduction around here. But there’s a whole lot of history behind the family that makes Sweet Southern Comfort what it is today.
Mr. Jimmy and Mrs. Tammy have spent most of their lives in the restaurant industry. Before SOCO came to Main Street, Sweet Southern started as a breakfast and lunch spot in Freeport, where they spent 10 years building relationships and becoming part of the community.
Eventually, their oldest son had the idea of bringing something a little different to downtown DeFuniak Springs, and almost three years later, here they are.
Mr. Jimmy and Mrs. Tammy are truly the heart behind it all. They didn’t just start Sweet Southern, they’ve poured themselves into it from the very beginning.
They’ve been the ones opening the doors in the morning, staying long after they were supposed to go home at night, stepping into the kitchen to cook, washing dishes, filling in when someone couldn’t make it, and doing whatever needs to be done to keep things going.
So much of what you see at Sweet Southern starts with one of Mrs. Tammy’s ideas, and somehow Mr. Jimmy always finds a way to fix it, build it, or bring it to life. There really isn’t a job in this place that the two of them haven’t stepped in and done at some point.
Through the long days, late nights, busy weekends, and everything that comes with owning a restaurant, they’ve continued to show up and give this place everything they have. Sweet Southern was built with a whole lot of hard work, sacrifice, and love from these two, and you can feel a piece of them in every corner of it.
And then there’s Garrett, owner, son, manager, bartender, and the creative mind behind so much of what happens. From dreaming up events and creating cocktails to designing menus and flyers. He’s had a hand in just about every part of this place and continues to help keep everything running day to day.
Different roles, different strengths, but one family working together to keep the heart of Sweet Southern going every single day. They’ve poured so much of themselves into this place over the years, and you can see a little piece of each of them in what SOCO has become. At the end of the day, it’s more than a restaurant, it’s something they’ve built together, as a family, and it simply wouldn’t be Sweet Southern Comfort without all three of them. 🤍
