Lawd have mercy, I got je**ed awake before the rooster even thought about crowin’. Phone rang, and the first words I heard were, “I know you're alseep, but the power’s out around the restaurant.”
Now you know how that’ll shoot your heart straight up into your throat. I went from dead asleep to wide‑eyed panic in half a second. Jumped up, showered faster than a Baptist late for Sunday service, and headed straight to The Rooster.

But let me tell you… sometimes God slips a blessing right into the middle of your chaos.
I ended up sittin’ out on that back porch, watchin’ the sun ease itself up over the river like it had all the time in the world.

And as that light started spillin’ across the water, I got to thinkin’ — like I always do when the world finally hushes long enough for me to breathe.
Ain’t it somethin’ how the sun and moon paint us a brand‑new picture every mornin’ and every evenin’? No two ever the same.
Makes you wonder if our loved ones in heaven get to see ’em too… or if maybe they’re the ones nudgin’ those colors across the sky.

When that little breeze came through, I just sat there and let it hit my face. Took it all the way in. ’Cause the older I get, the more I realize — these simple things, these quiet things, these things most folks rush right past — they’re the ones that matter.

So today, when you feel that breeze, take it in.
When the sun starts settin’ tonight, look at it.
We’ve had some sunsets lately that look like the good Lord spilled His paint box across the sky.
Take it all in, baby. You never know when you won’t get the chance again.

🍽️ Now… let’s talk about what’s cookin’ at The Rooster today:
Chicken and dumplings
Salmon patties
Kraut & Weenies
Black‑eyed peas
Carrots
Fried squash
Mac and cheese

Come see us today, sit out at the picnic tables while the day’s still a little cooler, and let the breeze remind you you’re alive.

P.S. I forgot we will have a whole strawberry pretzel in the cooler for sale, and a couple tomorrow. 35.00 each

Well hellooooo Monday…
Waltzin’ in here all high‑steppin’ and sashayin’ like we ain’t laid eyes on you in a month of Sundays.
Just struttin’ through the door like you own the place. And lawd have mercy, she brought the heat with her.
One of those warm‑’til‑your‑kneecaps‑sweat kinda days.

The kind that makes a body crave homemade ice cream, the real kind — the kind you crank on the porch while hollerin’ at somebody to bring more rock salt.

Makes me want to sit out back with a fan blowin’ straight at my face like I’m Scarlett O’Hara tryin’ not to faint.Which brings me to today’s little nugget of useless knowledge…Did y’all know that on this very day back in 1940, Dairy Queen opened its doors up in Illinois of all places?
Illinois.
I had to read it twice.

I didn’t know they went that far north neither — I always thought that was a Southern staple, right there beside sweet tea, church fans, and folks who wave at you even when they don’t know you.Turns out the owner was tinkerin’ around with a soft‑serve recipe and next thing you know, he done changed the whole dessert playin’ field in fast food.
Bless him for that. But alright, alright… enough of the ice cream history lesson.
Let’s talk about what really matters around here.

🍽️ Today’s Menu at The Rooster
Meatloaf or Fried pork chops
Mixed greens
Pintos
Mashed potatoes
Cream corn

Everything seasoned, simmered, stirred, and served with love — the kind of love that sticks to your ribs and makes you forget your troubles for a minute.
So come on by today, baby.
Step out of that heat, cool off, sit a spell, and let us feed you somethin’ that’ll make your whole Monday behave.

It’s Saturday night, the cicadas are tuning up, the lightning bugs are clocking in, and I can already feel tomorrow trying to sneak in the back door like it knows it’s got somewhere important to be.

And since I know I’ll be running around like a chicken with its head cut off come sunrise, I’m gonna go on and tell y’all now — this one’s getting reposted in the morning because Lord knows I won’t have time to breathe, much less type.

But before we talk food — and you know we’re gonna talk food — we gotta talk about the men we’re celebrating.
🧢 To the dads — every shape, every kind, every story.
To the Daddy’s, the dads, the Fathers, the deddys, the step-dads, the adoptive dads, the uncles, the brothers, the men who stepped up, stepped in, and stood tall even when life tried to knock them sideways.
To the supporters, the coaches, the monster hunters, the flat-tire fixers, the advice givers, the protectors, the ones who can grill, nap, and solve a crisis all in the same hour.
And yes — even to the fellas whose “kids” have four legs, fur, and a vet bill longer than a CVS receipt.
You’re still a dad in our book.

From all of us at The Rooster —
Happy Father’s Day.
We see you. We appreciate you. We thank you.

🍽️ Now let’s talk about this lineup, because Lord have mercy… y’all showed out with the ideas.
I was this close to settling on fried ribs — had my mind made up and everything — and then at the last minute I zigged when I should’ve zagged.
So here’s what we’re rolling with:
🍖 MEAT CHOICES
Fried chicken — crispy, golden, Southern as sweet tea
Country fried steak — smothered like it owes you money
Hamburger steak — hearty, homey, and hits the spot
Beef tips with gravy — over rice or mashed potatoes
Fried pork chops — because it’s Father’s Day and we ain’t holding back
🥘 SIDES (aka the reason y’all come back every Sunday)
Green beans
Mixed greens
Mashed potatoes
Mac and cheese
Rice
Squash casserole
Fried squash
And because y’all know I can’t leave well enough alone, there might be some fried zucchini, maybe a fried poblano pepper, maybe something I ain’t even thought of yet.
If it sits still long enough, I’ll probably fry it.

We are gonna dish up some fresh veggies too.
Sliced tomato
Sliced cucumber
Sliced onion

🥗 Plus the cooler will be stocked
Fresh salads
Chicken salad
Pasta salad
Desserts — including that strawberry pretzel salad, yes Lord
Honestly?
There’s no telling what might pop up on that bar tomorrow.
We may be just as surprised as y’all.

❤️ Happy Father’s Day, folks
Come sit a spell with us.
Let us do the cooking.
Bring your daddy, your deddy, your uncle, your brother, your bonus dad, or just bring yourself.
Tomorrow’s gonna be a good one.

Got to sleep in a couple hours this morning.
Then came on In and finished up a catering order.
Then a sweet 16 this afternoon here at the restaurant.

Ok guys if anybody wants fish today y'all need to speak now, or forever hold your peace. We are thinking about heading out at 4 today.
It has been an un normally quiet Friday and we are going to try and take advantage of it.
Got a lot going on tomorrow here at the restaurant, and back open on Sunday.

On slower days we try and take care of us as a crew so we aren't just ran raggeded.

We hope you guys have a great weekend and a great Fathers Day.
We will have a couple more items this Sunday on the bar. I will make a post late tomorrow afternoon with a full list of what's up our sleeves for Fathers Day

Lord have mercy, Rooster Nation, we done made it to another Fried Friday, and I swear this week didn’t just walk by—it ran, like a hound dog after a rabbit.
Seems like the older I get, the faster these days slip through my fingers, like tryin’ to hold water in a cracked Mason jar.

I found myself thinkin’ this mornin’ about when I was just a little ol’ thing, ridin’ in the back of that big Chevy conversion van Mama and Daddy had. You remember the kind—plush seats, curtains on the windows, and that third‑row couch that folded out into a bed like you were somethin’ fancy.
We’d leave before the sun even thought about wakin’ up, headed to Opryland or Six Flags, and I’d be knocked out cold the whole ride there and back, curled up like a cat in a warm patch of sunlight.

Back then, a day at the park felt like it lasted a whole lifetime. I’d run wild from one end to the other, no fear, no hesitation, ridin’ every ride two, three, four times like I had somethin’ to prove. Didn’t see my parents till sundown, and nobody thought a thing about it. Life was slower, sweeter, and somehow bigger.

Now? Lord help me… it takes me all day just to make it through a park once. Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s wisdom, maybe it’s these knees that sound like a bowl of Rice Krispies every time I stand up.
Or maybe—just maybe—I’m finally takin’ the time to look around, breathe deep, and notice the world instead of racin’ through it.

Opryland’s gone now, and places like Disneyland make it look like a little roadside attraction. But the memories? They’re stitched into me like the hem of a well‑worn apron.
Time moves faster now, but those old days… they stay put.

🍽️ Now let’s talk about what y’all REALLY came here for… the FRIED FRIDAY MENU
Fried catfish fillets or shrimp
Fried okra
Fried green tomatoes
Fries
Onion rings
Slaw
Baked beans
And if my memory serves me right—and Lord knows it’s hit or miss these days—I believe I’ve got a sweet potato casserole left from yesterday’s Thanksgiving feast that needs to be shown some love.

❤️ And let me tell you somethin’ straight from the heart…Y’all showed up and showed OUT yesterday. I mean it. This community wraps around us like a warm quilt on a cold night, and we feel that love every single day.
We don’t take it lightly.
We don’t take it for granted.
We are grateful down to our bones.
So come on out today, take a load off, let the week roll off your shoulders, and let us feed you somethin’ fried, familiar, and made with love. We’ll be here, doors open, skillets hot, hearts full.

06/17/2026

Good mornin’, y’all… mercy, it’s Wednesday already, smack dab in the middle of the week, and I swear I hit the floor runnin’ before the sun even had time to rub the sleep outta its eyes.

I rolled up to The Rooster, stepped outta that truck, and before my second foot even hit the pavement, there it was. That smell.
Country folks know it.
City folks think they know it.
But Southern folks? Oh honey… we can feel it in our bones.

That thick, earthy, sweet‑as‑fresh‑turned‑dirt smell that only shows up when the sky’s fixin’ to open up. Stronger in the summertime, hangs in the air like a memory you ain’t quite ready to let go of.
Anybody wanna guess?

Rain!!!!!

I can smell rain comin’ long before it ever hits the tin roof. Always have.
Growing up, I’d be out in the yard barefoot, hair wild, and I could look across the field and see it movin’ in like a gray curtain sweepin’ across the pasture.
First you smell it, then you see it, then you hear it—like somebody shakin’ a jar full of marbles way off in the distance.
Some folks think I’m crazy.
Some of y’all know exactly what I’m talkin’ about.

And here’s a lil fun fact for your Wednesday brain:
Human noses are 200,000 times more sensitive to the smell of rain than a shark is to blood.

We can actually detect the chemical that gives off that earthy scent right before a storm.
Ain’t that somethin’?
We’re basically weather radars with legs.

But alright now… enough about rain.
🍽️ Wednesday Menu at The Rooster
Fried chicken — crispy, golden, and hummin’ with flavor
Hamburger steak — smothered and tender
Chicken casserole — creamy, cozy, and straight‑up comfort

With sides that taste like somebody’s grandma is still back there stirrin’ pots:
Fried okra
Fresh corn on the cob
Cabbage
Green beans
Mashed potatoes

Come see us today, y’all…
Slide in before that rain sets in and settles your soul for the rest of the day.

Y'all gave Pam to much time today!!!!
She has been making fried deviled eggs!!!
I think we may do a few for Thanksgiving Thursday.
When you put those candied Jalapeños with that all ready spicy batter....baaabbyyy...
Who knows we may have a new hidden menu item, that's been in plain sight this whole time.

Lord have mercy, this week has done got me so hard I’ve been slidin’ into the parkin’ lot like a wagon with one wheel missin’.
I’ve come in hot two days in a row, and somethin’ tells me tomorrow’s fixin’ to be no different.

After we closed up yesterday, I took myself on out to Mama’s. And let me tell you — drivin’ past all them cornfields with the sun layin’ low across the tops, it hit me like a memory I forgot to remember. That post I was supposed to make yesterday?
Yeah… that one.
Well, the way my mornin’ fell apart, there wasn’t a lick of time to stop long enough to breathe, much less type.

But back to the corn.
y’all… listen.
I have spent my whole entire life on a farm. I have planted gardens, pulled weeds, picked beans, shucked corn, canned tomatoes, and hauled watermelons big enough to bruise a hip. You’d think with all that Southern farm know‑how rattlin’ around in my head, I would’ve known this one simple thing.
But I didn’t.
And when I tell you my mind was blown clean open, I mean it.
There are the same number of kernels as silk strands on a corn cob.

Go ahead and Google it — I did. I'll wait!!!!

Each little silk is tied to one kernel. That’s how it gets pollinated. Now I’ll never look at corn the same way again.
A whole miracle hidin’ in plain sight.

Alright now, let’s get to what y’all really came for — the food.Today’s Menu:
Salmon patties
Chicken and Dumplings
Kraut & Weenies
Carrots
Fried Squash
Black‑eyed Peas
Mac and Cheese
And maybe — just maybe — a little corn on the cob since Thursday is Thanksgiving Thursday.
Y’all don’t forget now…
Mark them calendars, set a reminder, tie a ribbon on your wrist — whatever you gotta do.
Thursday’s comin’, and we’ll be servin’ up comfort like only the South knows how.
