We’ve been waiting for the Great Pumpkin… and tomorrow night might finally be the night. The Mini Bean is getting ready for the Decatur Main Street, Indiana Halloween Bash, and we can’t wait to see you!

We’ll have plenty of treats waiting for you:

So grab the family, head downtown and come find our little Great Pumpkin-inspired Mini Bean. We can’t promise the Great Pumpkin will show up… but we CAN promise the coffee will.

RAY STORY #2: The Tattoo

This one happened about 5 years ago, and unlike some of our Ray stories, it wasn't late at night or when someone was upstairs alone.

It was the middle of the morning, and two of our baristas had gone upstairs to grab some product we needed from storage. In other words, it was a completely normal trip upstairs.

What they needed was a heavy box of cups off one of the shelves, so they both reached for the box to get it down together. That's when one of them stopped, looked at the other and said, "The hair on my arm is sticking up." The other barista could tell it had freaked her our a little, so she looked at her arm.

And here's the strange part...it wasn't the hair on her whole arm. It was just the hair around her tattoo. Not above it. Not all the way up her arm. Just around the tattoo on her wrist.

So, trying to maker her feel a little better, the other barista told her, "Ray likes your tattoo. He must be a Cubs fan."

Was it Ray? Was it static from grabbing the box? Was there some perfectly normal explanation for why the hair was standing up only around the tattoo on her wrist? We have absolutely no idea.

You'll learn that Ray has never been scary. Apparently, he's just a little nosy.

Or maybe he really is a Cubs fan. Who knows?🤷‍♀️

Would YOU go upstairs alone?

A. Absolutely. What's the big deal?
B. Sure...but I'm turning every light on.
C. Only if someone is waiting at the bottom.
D. Not a chance. Ray can have the upstairs.

We're looking for someone who is friendly, dependable, works well with others and isn’t afraid to jump in wherever needed. Coffeehouse life can get busy, so being able to move quickly, multitask and still take great care of our customers is pretty important around here! 😁

Even though this position is for 3+ days a week, we are looking for someone whose availability allows us to schedule them throughout our Monday–Saturday business week. If Saturdays aren't an option for you, this position unfortunately won't be the right fit.

And since it's October, we should probably mention one other thing about the work environment...you may occasionally have to go upstairs. Ray keeps his own hours, doesn't appear on the schedule and has yet to cover a Saturday shift. 👻😂

Today Elly made a caramel cake, with caramel frosting, caramel drizzle and a sprinkle of sea salt.

We're keeping an eye on this one. If a slice mysteriously disappears, we have a pretty good idea who to blame. 😆

RAY STORY #1: The Voice Upstairs

In early 2016, I went upstairs to look for something and was standing in this room - around where the paint chips are on the floor. I stood there for a few minutes, trying to remember what I needed to grab, when I suddenly heard what was very clearly a man's voice talking...from the back corner of this room.

Not just one word, but complete sentences.

I remember standing there for a minute, alone, thinking to myself...WHAT WAS THAT?

My brain started to do the mental checklist:
✔It was Sunday.
✔The Bean was closed.
✔The salon next door didn't exist yet.
✔The store on the other side was closed.

There was absolutely no reason for me to hear a man’s voice…I was the only person up there!

Do I remember what he said? No way. And honestly, I didn’t stick around any longer than necessary. I got what I needed and got out of there!

P.S. This room is now a storage room - it looks slightly better haha.

He's been upstairs long enough. We finally made him a drink. Introducing THE RAY.

A butterscotch, salted vanilla latte topped with a dash of sea salt. It's warm, a little mysterious, and considerably easier to find than the guy it's named after.

Our upstairs regular's favorite. Probably.
