Some most fundamental tips to be a successful food business entrepreneur!

Prioritize the best location. It should be a happening place at least until midnight.
Never go for high investment until you get success in a small food venture.
Never ever trust a digital marketing agency to promote your own brand. They will work only for what they get paid and ultimately blame us for unsuccessful business solutions.
Limit your staff by appointing them for multitasking.
Cash should be handled only by the investor or the investment partners. Never trust anyone outside your blood relationship for cash handling.
Work on a simple menu that reaches all sorts of foodies.
Never experiment with new dishes that will not attract the foodies.
Always go for the standard menu what your kitchen staffs are experts in.
Don't force your cooks to try new dishes which they are not master at.
Pay the staff every week and not on a monthly basis. If you pay them on a monthly basis, it'll be a huge burden for you.
Posh interiors and luxury furniture in the food industry will never fetch you a penny. Rather concentrate on the quality, quantity, service, competitive pricing, and the best taste to attract customers.
You can install a small dark kitchen or centralized kitchen very nearby your outlet for all your food preparations and storage.
Write down the business plan on paper and work on them.
Your physical presence is mandatory at the outlet at least during peak business hours.
For example, 11am till 4pm and 7pm till closure.
Study and analyze the food business market around where you are planning to invest and work accordingly for the main or signature dish that you are going to focus on.
Never allow the digital marketing experts or so-called influencers to eat all your hard-earned money.
If you work on these you'll be a successful food business owner.
Successful I mean here is that you'll make a minimum 20 to 30% profit of the gross sales after all the expenses are covered.
Don't ever think that we successful food business owners are making millions, it’s just not true!

This article was written in the second half of April 2020 and California is still in a Shelter in Place status, which has been in effect since March 19, 2020. Since this date, only restaurants doing take-out and delivery are allowed to operate. All other restaurants and bars have been ordered to close.

The California Restaurant Association (CRA) recently estimated that 30% of all restaurants in the state that were closed during the Shelter in Place period will not reopen once the Shelter in Place has been lifted. There are approximately 80,000 eating and drinking businesses in California which means potentially over 20,000 of these eating and drinking businesses may not reopen.

For an owner-operator of a closed restaurant and bar business to be able to reopen they will need to take care of all their past accounts payable liabilities mentioned above. Additionally, if they want to reopen their closed business they will have to deal with the additional costs of reopening their business, which will include hiring and training new employees, dealing with the costs of any deferred maintenance as a result of being closed, purchasing new food and equipment products to operate and marketing costs to notify the public that they have reopened for business.

It's time to start planning for the new normal.
Is your restaurant ready???
As you are waiting to re-open, don't forget to spruce up your Kitchen and the FOH. Customers will carefully be inspecting your place for more than cleanliness, of course, but if your space looks a little worn out this won't help then feel at ease. Take the time to look over things like (paint touch-ups, throw out those broken chairs, replace those burnt out light bulbs, clean the windows, and make sure the floor and tables are spotless). The customer will be a bit nervous and you need to let them know you care. Best of Luck in this new normal.
