The latest and last addition to my altar at the tea house is Ksitigarbha or Jizo ( Japan ).
Ksitigarbha is a Bodhisattva who has taken on the task of emptying out all the suffering from hell.
A conversation with Gemini some months back got me thinking about how Dale Cooper could be considered a version of Ksitigarbha traveling through the Black Lodge to get to Laura Palmer.
I'm hoping to consult Ksitigarbha when, from time to time, I'm stuck in my own personal hells of depression and loneliness.

This is Char ( ).

Char event manages and serves at a Milwaukee restaurant. Char also regularly competes in submission only grappling tournaments in both Gi and Nogi categories.

We talked about life in Milwaukee and how she settled in Wisconsin. We talked about hospitality work and, of course, Jiu Jitsu.

Char likes tea a lot, so I served a few different varieties - roasted oolong, some raw puer, and one of my favorite black teas.

Courtney and Nathan ( ) stopped by for tea. They work for in the educational department.
We had a good conversation about where they're both from, where they went to school, and how they both ended up in Milwaukee.
We also talked about the concert Copland/Twain which had its debut in Milwaukee with the MSO in May.
We drank some Baozhong and roasted oolong.

I had tea with Keighley.
Keighley is an artist that goes by the name of on IG. She is also a member of art collective.
We had a very high energy, good vibe conversation that scatter shot many different topics from art, art residencies and goal setting to diet and concussions.
We both shared a moment about having something like not-agoraphobia - where we're both not necessarily afraid to leave the house, but where we both feel a strange pull to stay inside even when we would like to go outside.
We started off with a roasted oolong. I followed it with a high mountain oolong.

I had tea with Joshua Sevigny.
Josh is the principal tuba player of Sheboygan Symphony and the Lake County Symphony Orchestra. Josh also teaches at the Wisconsin Conservatory.
We talked about music and how Josh had a touring folk duo before committing to more of the classical side of music for both performance and teaching.
We talked about poetry and he shared his love of Walt Whitman which he attributes to his New England roots. I told him to check out Andrea Gibson who has become a favorite of mine since I worked one of her shows about 10 years ago.
We also talked a lot about films - particularly art house, independent and foreign films which we're both super nerds for - Kurosawa, Lynch, Aronofski. I told him about a new film - Tiny Furniture that I was in the middle of watching.
We talked for about 3.5 hours over some high mountain oolong and ripe puer.

Today I had tea with Dan Devine, the Mayor of West Allis ( ).
We talked all about local and national politics. I also got to hear about his family's trips, both national and international - Panama, Ireland, Puerto Rico. We also talked a bit about exercise and staying in shape as we age.
For tea, we drank one of my favorites - Shan Lin Xi high mountain oolong from Taiwan. Dan was amazed at how much tea ( 4 liters ) we were able to get from 1 smol pot 🫖🍵

New soil day for my Ginseng tree.
His name is Trunks.
I bought him in the clearance section at IKEA for 1 American dollar 8 or 9 years ago. At the time he only had 1 branch and 2 leaves.
This is the 2nd time I put in new soil. The first time was about 18 months ago. I did an aggressive prune to try to get a smaller leaf/bush look going, but I trimmed in fall which was probably a bad idea and then I used the wrong soil.
This time I'm just going to let him do what he do, but I made sure to add new soil specifically for ginseng and bonsai trees.

This is Becky Franzel ( ).
Becky is a writer. She just re-released her 1st 2 books as 1 book, "I Don't Belong Here" on February 28.
We talked about art collectives, writing collectives, Milwaukee and David Lynch. We also talked about 1970s conversion vans and van culture which she has a special spot in her heart for.
We started out drinking some special Taiwanese High Mountain oolong then we moved to Ripe Puer. We finished with an interesting mash up of D**g Ding / Tie Guan Yin I recently picked up from
