This month, we honor and remember Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Leslie Feinberg—three leaders of the Q***r Liberation Movement whose courage and commitment helped pave the way for decades of progress.
Much work remains, particularly as attacks against q***r people—especially trans and nonbinary individuals—continue to rise. We encourage those looking to help consider volunteering or donating to local or national organizations fighting on the front lines. With significant cuts to state and federal funding, no contribution is too small. We have included a few organizations to consider supporting, though there many others that are equally deserving.
We know how difficult, discouraging, and frankly terrifying that recent years have been for the q***r community and for so many others, and we know how easy it is to fall into a mindset ruled by apathy, fear, and pessimism. However, in difficult times like these, we are reminded of the words of the late Mr. Fred Rogers: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. There are still so many caring people in this world.”
We are deeply grateful to all of you—our friends, family, and community—for helping The Black Cow become the safe, diverse, and welcoming space it is, and will always be. You remind us that, no matter the challenges we face, there will always be people willing to step forward and offer their support.
To us, you are the helpers we look for.
With gratitude and so much pride 🏳️🌈💫🏳️⚧️,
The Black Cow Team
