On behalf of myself, the Garcia family, and the Archy’s family I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the family of Leodoro Martinez, Jr.

I knew Leodoro for most of my life. Initially in my childhood as a good friend to my father and in my adult years as a mentor and friend.

Leodoro and my father fought several battles together to bring reform and beneficial programs to our community. In my youth I would tag along with my father to meetings and get togethers where Leodoro would also be present. The meetings involved politics, government, etc. and Leodoro was always front and center and always the most charismatic.

During my tenure as mayor, I shared the podium with him at several functions. He was always (and rightfully so) the keynote speaker. I’d watch and learn from him. I’d seek his advice after the function was over, and he would not hesitate to offer his guidance. I learned a lot about leadership, public speaking, and how to serve the public from him.

To this day his words echo in my heart, and I practice what he taught me. I consider him along with my father great mentors who I admire and respect dearly.

Once again, our condolences from our families to his. May he rest in eternal glory and may his legacy last for generations.
