As a young girl she dreamt of being a singer in Saigon’s golden age, dubbed the Liz Taylor of Vietnam by her colleagues and audiences. At the height of her career, she left the entertainment industry to marry Col. Thanh Quoc Nguyen in 1960 and raised five children. When the Vietnam War ended in 1975, she bravely fled the country. With five kids under her wings, she immigrated to America with only a luggage of food, extra clothing, and old photos. They settled in Salt Lake City, Utah and opened the first Café Trang in 1987. She was one of the first pioneers to put Vietnamese food on the map with her amazing cooking in the 80s. Sadly, on July 23, 2025 she passed away due to dementia at 79. We owe her our deepest gratitude.

She shared “ I went to this amazing restaurant called Saola Restaurant and Lounge . We love this place—it gives such a calming vibe, and I absolutely love it. I thought it’s perfect for a date night or family time. The food is incredible! We loved the curry soup, the sushi, and everything we tried was so good. My girls especially loved the orange chicken and the pasta. I’ll definitely be back there. Sooooo good!
