Ser All these elements produce what we call "GONZO CUISINE."

Permanently closed.

In the fall of 1979, five of us transformed an old funky cafe into a handcrafted veggie restaurant. Our menu was limited and our patrons sometimes forced to imitate sardines because of our lack of space, but each year we added more delicacies to the menu and more "Normalites" to the venue. Through the years the emphasis in our cooking has been using fresh ingredients (organic when available), inve

nting original recipes (born from creative chaos!), and including thoughtfulness in preparation and presentation of food. We're ever mindful, as well, of maintaining a cooperative work environment (even the cooks do dishes!), a unique style, and a "growth through challenge" attitude. All of this makes us "NEARLY NORMAL." Enjoy your meal in our cozy downstairs seating area, or our spacious upstairs dining room, or take advantage of our shady, green, private and magical outdoor setting (weather permitting).

We know a lot of you will be missing the Normals booth at OCF this weekend! Well we have some good news!

John Eveland, one of the original owners of Nearly Normals, cooked for us in the early days (check out this photo from 1978 at the Eugene Saturday market!)

John is co-owner of Gathering Together Farms. He has been called into action to cook lunch Wednesday through Saturday (11 am to 2 pm) at the Gathering Together Farm restaurant (25159 Grange Hall Rd, Philomath)

He will be serving some of our favorites this week with a GTF twist. Come out and enjoy a Sunburger, Normal's Salad with Savory Tofu, Nearly Nasty Burrito or Asian Noodle Salad. We hope you'll come and enjoy a taste of Normals! No reservations required.

With love,
Barb, Marcia, Tom and John

Grab a seat in our gonzo time machine back to 1979 and check out our first menu!

We'll be posting some fun pages from the old photo album in the coming days. We hope you enjoy looking back at the decades of good food, friends and family!

There are so many folks that contributed to Normals during our journey and have been part of our Nearly Normal family from the early days. With much appreciation and gratitude, we want to thank Cyndi, Claudia, and Michael, skilled artisans that enriched our world. They provided t-shirt art, menu art, interior design, the map room, and so much more always capturing the essence of Normals. They were part of the cast of characters in our kitchen crew as well.

Thank you to our sunburger crew that kept us going. Kati and Caitlin, long time normalities, that hung in there with us.

We cannot forget the diners, you all, the folks that have supported us throughout the years. Many have become lifelong friends. It was an honor to provide a space for you to enjoy communing with friends, family, business associates while sharing a meal together. It was always satisfying to hear laughter and joy. We loved washing those empty plates! We always wanted you to feel like you were on a ‘mini vacation’. We were grateful for all the playful and fun moments with you.

Thank you so much for sustaining us all these years. We really missed saying goodbye in person.
We would like to share a paragraph from our staff manual, words that were important to us:

Help each other, do your job, be respectful, build relationships, make someone smile every day, value humor, and let go of anger. Peace and compassion begin with each of us. We will strive to take care of our planet, being thoughtful and mindful of our impact and think of the future. We should always strive for
excellence, balance and care in our work and relations.

On Friday we took time to share stories, laughter and tears before we transferred the keys. Although we are sad, we are also leaving with a sense of satisfaction for 42 gonzo years of food, family, laughter and joy.
