Can I tell y'all a little story ?
My grandpa passed away when I was a small girl.
I don't have a lot of memories because I was so young, but there are little things that I remember like him taking us to Otis's for a Yoo-hoo, the way he sat with is legs crossed (foot on his knee) so I could sit in the little "triangle pocket" and I remember he always had a saucer under his cup of coffee. He drank his coffee like I do now....lots of cream and sugar😂 ! He would always let a little spill over and let me drink it. Guess he's the one to blame for my love of coffee.🤷.
It has been a rough, hard, humbling month for me. I saw this poem this morning and just started crying. It is really hard sometimes not to lose faith. It is a struggle I have known all too well the last few weeks, but then I started thinking about my Grandpa and those little bits of memories I have of a man I lost 40+ years ago and through the tears I was able to smile. So, thanks, Grandpa for sharing a cup of coffee with me this morning and for helping me find a smile through the tears.
And..thank you for those who read this and allowed me to share a little of myself with this morning's coffee.
Drinking from My Saucer
by John Paul Moore
I’ve never made a fortune and it’s probably too late now.
But I don’t worry about that much, I’m happy anyhow.
And as I go along life’s way, I’m reaping better than I sowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
I don’t have a lot of riches, and sometimes the going’s tough.
But I’ve got loved ones around me, and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for his blessings, and the mercies He’s bestowed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ’Cause my cup has overflowed.
I remember times when things went wrong, my faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke, and the sun peeped through again.
So God, help me not to gripe about the tough rows that I’ve hoed.
I’m drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage, when the way grows steep and rough.
I’ll not ask for other blessings, I’m already blessed enough.
And may I never be too busy, to help others bear their loads.
Then I’ll keep drinking from my saucer, ‘Cause my cup has overflowed.
