Beyond the dining room, we actively support Columbus’ premier charitable events—serving, raising awareness, and standing alongside organizations making a meaningful difference. These include Taste the Future at Columbus State, Field to Table at Franklin Park Conservatory, benefit dinners supporting causes such as the Children’s Hunger Alliance, and ongoing support for the arts, including ProMusica and the Columbus Symphony.

For us, philanthropy is not an initiative—it is a responsibility.

Over our five decades of service, we estimate to have donated more than a million dollars (monetarily and through service), to charitable causes throughout central Ohio.

Annually:
350 + nonprofit organizations and events received donations
$25k + donated in gift certificates for silent auctions, door prizes, and more.

Chef Richard Blondin joined The Refectory in 1992, ushering in a defining era of French-inspired cuisine and technical excellence. His mastery of classic technique, exquisite sauces, and artistic presentation has shaped The Refectory’s identity as Columbus’ premier fine-dining destination.

His leadership has earned numerous accolades, including Best Restaurant in Columbus, Best Fine Dining, Best Romantic Restaurant, and Best Wine List (each won multiple years). Chef Blondin’s enduring influence continues to set the standard for culinary excellence.

Join us for a special evening celebrating 10 years of Ben Lucas Music at the Refectory, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Refectory!

Ben will be joined by some of his phenomenal musician friends, including Jeff Daubenmire, Austin Bruns, Sam Kearney, Isaac Lutz and other special guests.

Kamal hired Ben in the summer of 2016 to do some landscaping and maintenance around the restaurant, which led to occasional shifts hosting, running food, and bussing tables.

One cold December evening, John Losco, a Refectory mainstay, was playing Christmas carols on his guitar in the lounge while Ben was at the podium with Kamal, seating guests. Ben isn’t quite sure what compelled him, but he asked John if he could sing a Christmas carol. John knew Ben, but had no idea if he could sing. John acquiesced, Ben sang, “Oh Holy Night,” John looked at Ben and said, “I think you should do this more often, and I would like to work with you to help make that happen.” And, as they say, the rest is history.

Ben would like to extend his sincere gratitude to Kamal, Linda, and Christiane Boulos, as well as all of The Refectory Family, for their continued love and support over these ten years, which allowed him to reach this special milestone.
