Hey everyone! Long time no talk! I hope you’re all doing wonderfully. We’re hanging in there...Charlie’s still struggling with his other knee, and it looks like surgery is on the horizon, which he’s not thrilled about.
My baking has been seriously lacking lately, but tomorrow is San Biaggio’s feast day! In Abruzzo, that means Taralli di San Biagio!
February 3rd is the feast of San Biagio (Saint Blaise), the patron saint of the throat. It’s celebrated by making and eating these delicious, donut-like breads. They’re made from a simple dough flavored with anise seeds, I omit the seeds because my family don’t really care for them.
San Biagio was a doctor and bishop known for miracles, including healing animals and, legend says, saving a child choking on a fishbone.
Want to try making your own Taralli di San Biagio? They’re super easy! Let me know if you’d like the recipe.
