Denton Valley's Backyard

Denton Valley's Backyard Welcome to Denton
Valley’s Backyard
closed Hi, I'm Chuck Swofford. I'm married to Lisa and we have purchased the old Denton Valley Store!

We are pleased as punch to be back in Callahan County. Lisa and I have been doing most of the restoration on the restaurant ourselves -- but then we have a great big family that has also pitched in at different times and helped us along the way. Family wood artisans have worked to build some outstanding tables that will sport surprises and spark many a conversation. I think you will find that we h

ave worked to preserve as much of the original wood, character, and layout of the store as possible while at the same time converting it into a full-service, top shelf restaurant. We have added some great features -- 3 restrooms, an industrial kitchen, and a big back yard, just to name a few. Our kitchen will provide meals that touch your soul and remind you of days gone by when you experience our foods. We will start small with simple meals like fried catfish, chicken fried steak or steak fingers and great hamburgers. Our staff will be some of the finest cooks using some of the best recipes that have been tested throughout our family history. Comfort food has been the hallmark of making folks feel welcome for over a hundred and 50 years in this State and there's no reason to stop now. That is just a small taste of what Denton Valley's Backyard will be offering -- it will be the very best place to be with family, friends, and a great crowd that you will want to meet.

Gruene Hall 83-84 midnight, Joe jamming, sheriff comes to him pointing at his watch saying shut it down, Joe says one more sheriff agrees, 20 min later Joe still jamming, sheriff unplugs mike, Joe continues screaming song while Jesse (lead guitar) pours beer down sheriff’s hat, sheriff feels beer running down his back and turns to Jesse who throws his beer up and both him and Joe jump off stage and go running thru crowd with sheriff chasing🤣

Y'all, Joe Ely's passing has me feeling pretty low. I'm just going to take the day off, play Joe's music all day, ruminate, commiserate, brood etc ...

If any of y'all have any personal recollections of Joe or his songs or music, please post them. I'd surely like to read them.
