Never thought I'd be slicing corned beef inside a Navy warship on Lake Erie — but that's exactly what happened, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. 🇺🇸
When the USS Cleveland pulled into our city, we got the call. And at Slyman's, when Cleveland calls, we show up. We loaded up the corned beef, walked aboard one of the most powerful ships in the United States Navy, and got to work right there in their galley. Same craft we've been doing on St. Clair Ave since 1964 — just with a little more steel and a lot more horsepower around us.
Standing on that flight deck, looking out over Lake Erie with a US Navy warship beneath our feet — there are no words. This city has given so much to our family and our restaurant over 60+ years. Getting to give something back to the men and women who protect this country felt like exactly what we were supposed to do that day.
To the crew of the USS Cleveland — you welcomed us aboard, you were gracious, and you were humble. The real honor was ours. Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and everything you represent. God bless each and every one of you and your families. 🙏
