“I never thought volunteering would become something I genuinely look forward to, but La Soupe changed that for me...

As Gen Z, we are often connected through screens. We care about issues like food waste and hunger, but we are not always physically involved in our communities. Volunteering with La Soupe is a chance for something different. It pulls you off your phone and puts you into real action with real impact.

Fighting food insecurity with La Soupe, you're not just hearing about change. You are part of it.” —Laney Sgantas

Food waste and hunger are problems we can solve. Our neighbors who don’t know where their next meal is coming from, don’t need overlapping efforts. They need organizations working collaboratively to move rescued food to a plate in front of them. We’re proud to announce the launch of a smarter food rescue system. When Cincinnati Parks inquired about the opportunity to provide fruit for the butterflies during the Krohn Conservatory’s Butterfly Show, we couldn’t say no!

We are delighted to welcome them as a new Share partner that supports the most delicate of creatures.

Destination Monarch sends you on a journey with these graceful and intelligent insects as they migrate across the United States and Mexico for the winter.

If you're looking for something to do for the holiday weekend or beyond, grab tickets to see the show on the Cincinnati Parks website. bit.ly/lskrohn

Step inside La Soupe and you’ll find something that looks like chaos, but runs with surprising rhythm.
As our volunteer and guest blog writer, Ramon, puts it, we're less like a traditional kitchen and more like a jazz band improvising in real time to create something impactful.

Volunteers, chefs, and ever-changing ingredients come together in a system that doesn’t rely on rigid rules, but on adaptability, trust, and flow.

Curious how it all works?

We were grateful to gather with so many passionate community members at the Green Umbrella + Nourish Network networking event here in Cincinnati last Wednesday.

Our Inspire & Innovation Director, Katie Funk, proudly represented La Soupe alongside Rosa Baker, Green Umbrella’s Food Policy Council Manager. As we connected with others working to build a stronger, more resilient food system in Cincinnati, we enjoyed delicious bites from La Soupe’s talented chefs.

Thanks, Green Umbrella, for organizing an event specifically for food systems-focused individuals and organizations to come together for this meaningful conversation.

Let’s continue to amplify our efforts toward food access, sustainability, and community impact.

The popcorn was popping and the lemonade was flowing recently at Ziegler Park. ☀️🍿🍋

Our team brought Creative Cooking to the heart of OTR for the Make It, Take It event with 3CDC. At one station, Chef Pax taught visitors how to make popcorn from scratch with unexpected flavors like basil and lemongrass paste. At another, Chef Linnea showed participants how to fresh-squeeze lemons, mix simple syrup, and even add mint to build their own refreshing lemonade. It was the perfect day for it with sunshine, a little breeze, and neighbors gathered around good food and new ideas.

Beyond providing snacks, the evening was about showing just how creative we can get with food. A few spices in the cabinet can transform something ordinary into something delicious, fun, and totally new with a little artistry.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, our incredible volunteers, and our partners for supporting us in our mission to help people feel confident enough to taste, experiment, and make something of their own.

At La Soupe, transformation is where rescue becomes dignity, nourishment, and community impact. We're not just redistributing ingredients. We are applying culinary skills, planning, and community partnerships to turn surplus food into high-quality meals people are proud to receive.

Recently, Chef Phil and our volunteer chefs processed a massive donation of chickens to help prepare meals for the 5000 Club at Christ Church Cathedral, one of our valued Share Partners. From prepared community meals to soups and fresh frozen meal components, the chicken was thoughtfully utilized across multiple programs, ensuring every part served a purpose.

As the doors open and guests arrive at their church, volunteers move through the room with warmth and intention. All guests are welcomed to the table, every cup is filled, and each meal is served with as much dignity as it is nourishment.

Want to be part of the table? Learn how to volunteer with La Soupe at lasoupe.org/volunteer.

And, if this story moved you, share it so more people in Cincinnati know this work is happening right in our backyard.

From our Roundbottom Road days to our current home, we’ll always be grateful for everything we accomplished in our old space.

Today marks our 6th anniversary at 915 E. McMillan. 🎉 Our team shared these photos and memories as a reminder of how incredibly far we’ve come.

The people we welcomed, the meals we shared, the partnerships we built, and the impact we made at our first location laid the foundation for so much of what La Soupe is today.

Moving to our current home in Walnut Hills expanded more than our square footage. It expanded our impact.

Now we are in the heart of the city, making our programs and services more accessible to the communities we serve while giving us the space to grow this important work even further. Even our parking lot has grown, allowing us to add extra vans and refrigerated trucks to our fleet.

To everyone who supported us through the Roundbottom days and into this next chapter: thank you for growing with us. Here’s to continuing to rescue food, nourish neighbors, and build community. 🥂
