Under original founding ownership, we aim to be the best version of this restaurant that has ever existed.

Good morning everyone, just a quick update.

We will be closed for lunch today as our team attends the funeral of a beloved member of our community, Michael Ly.

His older brother is one of the incredibly talented cooks here at Shanghai, and someone we are truly lucky to spend our days and nights with. Our team is our family, and right now, our hearts are with him as he navigates this loss.

As big as the restaurant industry may seem, it’s a small and deeply connected community, and we know many of you may have known Michael as well. If you see this, please join us in sending love and support to him and his family during this time.

At midnight, it will be Alex Chin’s birthday. To everyone who knew him and continues to support the legacy he created so many years ago, thank you. We are incredibly lucky to be able to continue keeping his dream alive. Times have been difficult this past year for many restaurants. The team we have built has become a family. The relationships we’ve built with our customers grows our family more and more each day. I want to take a moment to acknowledge someone many of you haven’t met, but is the reason we have been able to keep Shanghai open. Chef Tao, who worked alongside Alex for many years, has continued to work alongside us for many more. I can only imagine how proud Alex is. We are so grateful for you, Tao, and all you do. If you are free to come celebrate Alex tonight, we would love to have you. Happy Birthday, our crazy mullet man. We miss you.
