🖤 BLACK CAT PROTECTION MONTH 🖤
October is spooky season — but for black cats, that can mean something a little different.
Black cats have carried unfair superstitions for centuries. They’ve been associated with bad luck, witchcraft, and other myths that have absolutely nothing to do with who they actually are. In reality, a black cat is no more unlucky, evil, or mysterious than any other cat. They are just cats — goofy, affectionate, chaotic, cuddly, and deserving of the exact same love and protection as every other feline. 🐈⬛
Unfortunately, the stigma surrounding black cats can still create real-world concerns, particularly around October. Black cats can be difficult to photograph clearly, are sometimes overlooked for adoption because of outdated stereotypes, and there are legitimate concerns about intentional harm or irresponsible handling of black cats during the Halloween season.
That’s why for the entire month of October, we are adding a $25 Black Cat Protection Fee to adoptions of black cats.🖤
This isn't because black cats are dangerous.
It's because they deserve an extra layer of protection.
That $25 goes directly toward helping us provide the additional screening, education, and safeguards we use to make sure our black cats are going to safe, loving, responsible homes.
And while we're protecting them, we're also here to remind everyone:
Black cats aren't bad luck.
Black cats aren't evil.
Black cats aren't Halloween decorations.
Black cats aren't disposable because they're "just a black cat."
Black cats are individuals with their own personalities, quirks, and huge amounts of love to give.
So this October, don't be afraid of the black cat.
Be the person who protects one. 🖤🐾
