❤️🍔 YECK’S TRIVIA :
This one is a little different. 🍔❤️
Tonight I want to tell you a little bit about why Yeck’s is Yeck’s.
My dad, Leo Yeck, had six daughters. He taught and coached in Cheboygan and was busy all year long, but summer was the time he looked forward to spending with his girls.
Then his two oldest daughters started working at Proffitt’s Drive-In.
Dad realized pretty quickly that as all six of us grew up and started working to earn money for college, if he didn’t find a way for us to work together, he was going to miss out on those summers with us.
So he bought the drive-in. ❤️
Eventually, in 1980, we moved down to what became Yeck’s Family Drive Inn.
At the time, I think Dad believed he was giving his family a gift….a place where we could work hard, earn money for college and, most importantly, still spend our summers together.
And he was.
But I don’t think any of us could have imagined just how big that gift would become.
Over the years, generations of our family have worked side by side here. We’ve made memories with employees who started out as staff and became family. Kids grew up here. Their kids came back and worked here. We’ve laughed, worked ridiculously long days, celebrated milestones, shared heartaches and built a lifetime of memories inside this little drive-in.
But Dad gave us something else, too.
He gave us all of you.
He gave us an entire extended family of customers who have made Yeck’s part of their own summer traditions.
Some of you came here as kids and now bring your kids. Some bring your grandchildren. Some of you have a “usual” we already know. Some of you stop every single summer because a trip home to Cheboygan just wouldn’t be complete without Yeck’s.
And especially since losing Dad, continuing what he started has brought us more comfort than I can probably put into words.
Every summer that we open those windows, every family that pulls in, every familiar face we see and every new memory made here keeps a little piece of his original intention alive.
Family. Together. ❤️
So tonight’s trivia question really isn’t trivia at all.
👇 If you knew Leo Yeck, would you share a memory of him with us?
Maybe he taught you. Maybe he coached you. Maybe you worked for him. Maybe you remember him from Yeck’s. Maybe you have a funny story…..and knowing Dad, I’m guessing there are a few. 😂
📸 If you have a photo, we would absolutely LOVE to see that too.
Every Leo memory or photo shared below will receive FIVE entries into our trivia drawing.
Not because this is a hard question…but because those memories truly mean the world to us. Every time someone tells us a story about Dad, it feels like we get another little piece of him back.
And as we come to the end of another season, it seems like the perfect time to remember exactly why all of this started.
To every customer who has become part of our extended Yeck’s family over all these years….thank you.
Thank you for your loyalty. Thank you for your stories. Thank you for bringing the next generation. Thank you for allowing our family to be a small part of your family’s summer memories.
And thank you, Dad. ❤️
You knew what you were doing.
What you gave your six daughters all those years ago turned into so much more than a summer job.
It became our family story. ❤️🍔
👇 Now help us remember Leo. Share your story or photo below. We can’t wait to read them.
