The market never happened. The weather had other ideas, and the day we had set aside for it became something else.

Rain fell behind the gong. We rolled out mats and made room for yoga, Reiki, and gong work. The room grew still. Breath slowed; sound filled the quiet without asking anything of us. The rain was not a disappointment. It was a backdrop.

Nothing is everything. And everything is now.

We each received a stone. No one could remember what the stones meant, yet every one seemed to fit the person holding it. That was the whole point: we did not need to explain the feeling for it to be true.

Mine was snowflake obsidian: grounding, purifying, and connected to the root chakra. It is said to soothe stress, bring hidden feelings to the surface so they can be released, and help break old patterns, even the ones carried in the voice inside your own head.

In the video, I hold the stone and say, "I'm keeping this one close."

The quiet evenings held their own too. Rain on the roof, and my cop shows. Homicide Hunter with Lt. Joe Kenda is everything.

Thursday: a closing breakfast, the lessons, and the close of this series.

First full morning in the Valley: before anyone moved, the air was quiet, and there was room to arrive.

Jami led the 8 Brocade; I loved her hair. Anneli guided Soundscape. I invited everyone to notice breath, move as they could, and let sound hold the pauses.

More people joined than I expected. Honestly, four guests were new to the practice and bracing to be judged. That was real; I won’t soften it.

I recorded as it unfolded. A camera changes a room; being seen can make it harder to settle, even when the aim is simply to remember.

At Salt Cavern Chattanooga, the floor and walls are pure Himalayan pink salt; a halo fills the air with medical-grade salt. Forty-five minutes flew by. My mind opened, my skin felt like silk, and I felt free. I’m part of the family now; I can return for five more sessions, some with singing bowls. At Ama Spa, my family and I had an ionic foot bath and massage; we left relaxed and refreshed. Everyone seems open, intentionally enjoying these new experiences.

Next, the market. A river cruise remains an open possibility if guests want to go.

A thought to carry: openness can be its own kind of rest.

US-40 closed; the detour made our drive long. Guests arrived through early afternoon, still glad. Buc-ee’s helped make things right.

I worried and told my family I expected things to go left. Yet everyone was open, glad to be there, and at ease in the rooms and one another’s company.

Photos looked grander. In person, it was a nice, modest spot, with trees and valley all around. No reveal or letdown, just bags in a real place.

Before dinner: bags to rooms, rooms tended, tables set; lifting, carrying, checking, moving, repeating. Most fell to me, solo. They see the table, not each carry.

I ate fast; few photos survived. The table let us land; talk came on its own. Welcome was showing up, sitting down, sharing dinner. A spider on the deck. Hot Shot will travel.

Each sought rest, peace, healing from anxiety. I said aloud: “I will find what makes me happy and just be happy.” It landed; no one found it hokey or silly. I told the group: “Navigating loss and finding self-forgiveness takes tremendous courage. I am learning that this healing is not a sprint, but an ongoing journey, one that becomes lighter and more hopeful when it isn't walked alone.”

A thought I keep turning over, not an announcement: a recon tour of newer spots near North Carolina, and whether arrival-day work could grow into an internship.

Tuesday: Day 2, Morning Practice, the Valley.

Some endings feel like a gentle return.

On Sunday, October 11, Soul of the Valley closes by bringing guests back to the intention they arrived with, then inviting them to break bread over eggs, thick-cut bacon, and hot coffee.

At the table are people who know them now: not as they first arrived, but as they have become through the days together. The closing ceremony quietly honors what was opened, released, and received.

Soul of the Valley takes place October 8–11, 2026, at 52 Big Vistas Lane, Lookout Mountain, GA. Guests leave rested, centered, and ready for the next chapter.

Saturday night can be whatever you need it to be.

During Soul of the Valley on Saturday, October 10, wander through the Harvest Moon Market at the Choo-Choo, settle in near the food stalls, take dinner to go from the Boathouse, or simply let the evening grow quiet by the fire.

There is no pressure to do it all. Go where the night leads, or don’t go at all. Either way, the night ends by the fire.

Morning at Soul of the Valley begins without hurry.

On Day 2, enjoy coffee slowly. Meditation creates space to arrive. Tai Chi on the deck invites gentle movement, with optional yoga for those who want it. And when the gong sounds, rest becomes part of the practice.

There is nothing to prove here. Come as you are. Move how you can.

The mountains are calling, and before I answer, the details must be handled.

The calendar is cleared, my out-of-office is set, final checks are complete, and travel plans and bags have been double-checked. Soul of the Valley at Lookout Mountain, GA, is just ahead: October 8–11, 2026.

There is something meaningful about preparing well enough to become fully present. Once the lists are finished and the logistics are settled, there is room to listen: to breathe, reflect, and answer the call.
