is turning 25! 🍻✨

🇮🇪 Since opening in 2001, Connolly’s has become a longtime gathering place for Charlotte’s Irish community, regulars, service industry workers, and visitors looking for a welcoming neighborhood pub in the heart of Uptown.

🕯️A hundred years ago, the Fifth Street building was a wood shop and horse stable. Today, it’s candlelit and cluttered with police patches, Celtic keepsakes, and names and doodles scribbled across the walls.

🍺 The pub opens every afternoon, but the crowds really roll in after work, during rugby matches, after Hornets games, and when concertgoers spill out of Spectrum Center late at night. Most bartenders have worked there for years and know regulars by name and drink order.

✨ Over the years, Connolly’s has hosted engagements, weddings, and countless celebrations. For many people moving to Charlotte from Ireland, it’s also become a place to build community.

🎉 On May 30, Connolly’s will celebrate its 25th anniversary with live music, a street closure, and a neighborhood-wide party in Uptown.

🖌️ Inside the historic North Tryon space, artists gather for figure drawing classes, open studios, gallery talks, and collaborative conversations that are helping shape Uptown’s growing arts community.

🏛️ Opened more than 25 years ago inside a restored church, McColl Center hosts one of the country’s most prominent urban artist residencies, welcoming artists from Charlotte and across the country to create work in the heart of Uptown.

🎭 Under new leadership from former Artists-in-Residence Asa Jackson, Doris Kapner, and Meredith Connelly, the vision is to make McColl feel less like a residency operating behind closed doors and more like a creative hub for the community.

✨ Through Gallery Hours and monthly Talk & Tours, visitors can meet artists, step inside working studios, and experience the work as it’s being created in real time.

🎨 “We’re breaking down the barriers between artists and curators [and] artists and patrons,” Asa Jackson says, helping to create “one community of contemporaries.”

UPTOWN VENDOR SPOTLIGHT ✨

Congratulations to our Vendor of the Month, 🌮🔥 Serving Uptown throughout the week, this family-run food truck brings authentic, delicious Mexican street food to the neighborhood. Learn more about Tacos Don Coyotl below 👇

🌮 After moving to Charlotte in the early 2000s, Sandra Grande and her family noticed a lack of consistent taquerias, so they decided to create their own! With over 20 years of combined restaurant experience, Tacos Don Coyotl was born.

🌮 The menu is packed with favorites like tacos, quesadillas, birria, and burritos. Crowd go-tos include the chicken burrito, birria, and tacos al pastor 🔥

🌮 One of Sandra’s favorite things about the Uptown community is the incredible word-of-mouth support. From day one (when they weren’t even sure they’d hit $100 in sales), regulars have been bringing friends, coworkers, and clients to the truck. The Uptown community showed up for them on their first day and hasn’t stopped since!

Weekly Schedule:

📍 Tuesdays & Thursdays: N College & Brooklyn Village (11am–1pm)
📍 Wednesdays: 720 S Church St (11am–1pm)
📍 Weekends: Freedom Park (10am–1pm, weather permitting)
📍 Select Fridays: Resident Culture (5–9pm)

🎡 Led by longtime Charlotte local (and former paramedic) John Crunk, these 90-minute tours take riders through Fourth Ward, Romare Bearden Park, and Levine Avenue of the Arts with stories, history, and a lot of double takes along the way.

🏛️ Riders learn Charlotte history ranging from haunted homes and 1900s architecture to the “Disco Chicken” and Queen Charlotte herself.

🦄 After decades spent racing through these neighborhoods answering emergency calls, John is happy to trade sirens for unicorns. Now he leads up to four tours a day, and no two are the same!

If you’re wondering why motorized animals? John has a simple answer: “Why not?”
