🇺🇸 Happy Carolina Day! 🌴

Today we celebrated one of Charleston’s most treasured traditions. We began with the Carolina Day church service before marching in the parade. My mother marched with the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in South Carolina through our ancestor, General Wade Hampton, while I had the honor of marching with the Huguenot Society.

This year was especially meaningful because I officially became a member through my Ravenel family. In previous years, I’ve marched with both the General Society of Colonial Wars and the South Carolina Society, but this year felt like the perfect time to celebrate my Huguenot heritage.

We finished the day with lunch and dinner at the Carolina Yacht Club before watching an incredible drone show over Charleston Harbor depicting the Battle of Sullivan’s Island.

Carolina Day commemorates June 28, 1776, when Colonel William Moultrie and about 400 South Carolina defenders defeated the invasion force led by Admiral Sir Peter Parker and General Sir Henry Clinton. Facing the largest Royal Navy fleet yet assembled for operations in North America, the defenders held their palmetto log fort and secured one of the first great American victories of the Revolutionary War.

While my family wasn’t among the defenders at the fort, several of my ancestors served as captains in South Carolina’s Revolutionary forces, including my ancestor Captain John Palmer, who served under General Francis “The Swamp Fox” Marion throughout the war.

A wonderful day celebrating Charleston, family, and the history that continues to shape South Carolina.

Happy Carolina Day! 🌴🇺🇸

I’ve had this Scotland shirt since I was 13 years old, when Scotland last played in the World Cup in France. Nearly three decades later, it’s still hanging in my closet.

Over the years I’ve worn it everywhere—at the gym, out with friends, to Highland Games, and countless ordinary days in between. It’s one of those shirts that somehow survived every stage of life.

To be honest, I never thought I’d get the chance to wear it again because Scotland had made it back to the World Cup.

Over the years I’ve cheered for Germany 🇩🇪 and, thanks to my university days, the Netherlands 🇳🇱 as something of an adopted second home. But whenever people asked who my team was, I always said Scotland. It was just a little sad knowing they weren’t there.

Now they’re back on the world stage, and I couldn’t be happier. The Tartan Army is doing what it does best: bringing good times, good cheer, good friendship, bagpipes, and the ability to drink entire cities dry.

My only question now is: which tartan kilt should I wear with it?

🏴 Hay (my father’s clan)
🏴 Macbeth (my mother’s family)
🏴 Pride of Scotland

What say you, Tartan Army?

Honored. Grateful. Shucking my heart out. ✨

I’m thrilled to share that I’m featured in the Holiday 2025 issue of The Local Palate in an 8-page article titled “A Comprehensive Guide to Southern Oysters.”

To be included in a publication that celebrates the soul of Southern food is a dream — and to represent our coastal waters, our hardworking seafood families, and the oyster culture that shaped me is truly special.

From Lowcountry tides to championship stages, this journey has been wild, salty, and beautiful. Thank you to everyone who’s believed in my craft, my story, and my passion for the humble oyster. 🦪💙

Here’s to the South, to our waters, and to everyone working to maintain southern oysters from the farms, restaurants, and family getherings into the history books.
