🍉 New Beer Release! 🍉
Melons on the Marsh - Watermelon Wheat. Now on tap!
Sappy post. For those of you that know us, you know our oldest is a Spartan. Defiant. Brilliant. Never Ending. ADHD. This year has been a ride, but there are times that I am BLOWN away and reminded of why we do what we (IRBC) do what we do. This beer is one of those times.
We've had an amazing partnership with Boone Hall Farms for many years and try to work with their locally grown crops whenever we can. Last year we talked about doing a Watermelon Wheat and we weren't able to make it happen, but I was determined to do it this year. When Jameson (who was not able to be in school that day IYKYK) and I met Jim (Boone Hall CEO) to pick up the watermelons at Boone Hall he not only helped us load up the watermelons but asked Jameson if he wanted to pick some of the last blueberries of the season. We drove back to the blueberry fields and Jim hand picked blueberries with Jameson for over 30 minutes. It was unbelievable, time slowed, Jameson was obsessed, and there was calm. As an owner and head Brewer, words escape me of how amazing the experience was. As a father of a son with ADHD (and also someone with ADHD) im awestruck at how much time and attention Jim gave to Jameson.
So... then, Jim asks when we are adding the watermelon to the beer and if he can help! So...... Obviously I said yes and he helped us (my mother-in-law and I) cut and juice the watermelon to add to the beer. Swipe for some action shots!
If you're still reading this, I hope this story/post helps bring understanding, love, or anything else you need to your life.
Side note - while tossing beer name ideas around, I wanted to figure out how to make Meloncholy (Melonc-HOLY?) work after my favorite Iced Earth song but....that didn't happen. 😉
