Grilled Chicken ❤️

We’re getting the grill out on this episode of Kooking with Kurtis.

INGREDIENTS BELOW:

-A whole chicken

Spice Blend
-Salt to taste
-Pepper to taste
-1 Tbsp Garlic powder
-1 Teaspoon Chili powder
-1 Teaspoon paprika
-A dash of Lime seasoning
-A tiny bit of sugar
-Two tablespoons of turmeric
-Some cinnamon
-and a little bit of oregano BUT NOT TOO MUCH

If you do burn it, it’s okay, things happen. Just get in your car and drive to your nearest Taco John’s® for some Mexi Rolls®

Today was truly special. ❤️

As Teacher Appreciation Day comes to a close, we just want to say thank you to every teacher, administrator, school employee, and educator who serves this community every single day.

What an honor it was to spend today celebrating YOU.

So many teachers stopped in today, and while we weren’t able to grab photos with everyone because of how busy the day became, please know how deeply appreciated each and every one of you are. You all truly showed up, and honestly… it felt incredible to be able to give something back to the people who give so much of themselves every day.

The impact you make on our children’s lives is beyond remarkable.

You help them grow.
You help them learn.
You help build their confidence.
You help shape who they become.
And most importantly… you help them succeed.

Being a teacher today is not easy by any means, and I hope every educator in this community hears this clearly:

You are doing a fantastic job.

We see it firsthand as many of your students walk through our doors every single day. We see the respect, kindness, leadership, humor, work ethic, and heart that you pour into them. The lessons you teach extend far beyond a classroom.

None of us become who we are in life without teachers like you.

Every successful adult can point back to a teacher who believed in them, challenged them, encouraged them, protected them, or simply reminded them that they mattered.

Chanute is better because of you.
Our children are better because of you.
This community is stronger because of you.

Some stories just hit different. ❤️

Today was one of the coolest full-circle moments I’ve ever experienced as the GM of Chanute, Taco John’s.

A.J. and I were just two kids sitting side by side in music class at Oklahoma Union. I remember playing those awful sounding recorders and being absolutely determined to play it better than him, learn notes faster than him, and sing better than him. 😂

The problem was… he was always just naturally good.

Fast forward a few years and we started band together in the 6th grade. Dear Lord, we were awful. Squeaking notes, struggling through songs, and probably giving our music teacher daily headaches. It sounded less like music and more like a flock of angry geese fighting for survival. Just pure honking chaos. 😂🎶

Back then, he was just another band kid and a childhood friend sitting next to me.

Then life changed.

I left Oklahoma Union and moved to Kansas my 7th grade year from the only life and childhood friends I had ever known. Life took us in completely different directions for a long time, and then one day I saw a photo from the CHS band program and thought, “Oh my gosh… I know that guy. We grew up together.”

Fast forward all these years later, and now he’s Dr. B — the band director at Chanute High School and a Doctor of Music.

A DOCTOR. OF. MUSIC.

How incredible is that?

Today we had the honor of celebrating him during Teacher Appreciation Week, and honestly, it meant more to me than I can explain.

Because behind every title, every classroom, every performance, and every successful student… is a teacher who put in the work when nobody was watching.

Dr. B — I hope you know how proud this community is of you. Taco John’s is proud of you. I’m proud of you. Watching someone you grew up with become a Doctor of Music is just incredibly special.

Thank you for investing your life into students, music, and this community. Chanute is better because of people like you. 🎶

🎶 Some teachers don’t just educate students… they help them find their voice. 🎶

Today we’re celebrating Chanute Middle School music teacher, Mr. Burnett! If you’ve ever heard a student sing with confidence, perform on stage, pick up an instrument for the first time, or discover a love for music — there’s a good chance he played a part in that journey.

For over 25 years, Mr. Burnett has been pouring his passion, patience, and talent into generations of students right here in our community. Music matters because it teaches confidence, creativity, discipline, teamwork, and expression in ways words sometimes cannot.

The arts change lives. Great music teachers help shape hearts.
