A quick moment for our scones… 😍

When we first opened the Pewter Spoon, we knew we wanted to offer a couple of options of baked goods for those looking to pair something sweet with their coffee order, and we determined that scones were just perfect for our work flow. They’re quick to prep, bake fairly quickly, and are just lightly sweet enough to give you what you’re looking for. But what we didn’t realize is just how much of a demand for baked goods we would see from the community!

What started out as “we’ll offer two different flavors of scones each day, maybe a batch of chocolate chip cookies once in a while,” very quickly became baking multiple batches of sweets every single day as you all quickly devoured what we baked up at the shop. These days we regularly bake cakes, quick breads, cookies, muffins, cardamom bullar, bars and brownies, and of course, our tried and true, our day ones — scones.

Thanks for loving our baked goods and for letting us get creative with our different offerings. We love getting to sweeten your day just a little bit. ❣️

It’s a quiet winter day in Cazenovia, NY but the lake effect snow is behind us (for now!). As you shovel your driveway or start working on that house project you’ve been putting off, we hope you’ll stop in for a little caffeinated treat or some lunch. Maybe take a quick stroll down Albany St and stop by the incredible local shops our village has to offer.

You may have heard that it’s been a particularly tough winter to be a small business. It’s true. If you can, show some love to your favorite places this winter. In a fast-paced world moving seemingly ever faster, we sometimes need that gentle reminder to slow down and appreciate the local spots that make our community so special ❤️

Back in October, published this piece about Medhat and our family who hosted him when he was a foreign exchange student in Caz from 2022-2023. It’s an excellent piece written by journalist Patrick McCarthy, who listened to our story with care and delivered it with thoughtfulness and intentionality. We are so grateful for the opportunity to have it all in writing.

So much has changed since Medhat returned home to Gaza in May 2023, and we are grateful that both he and Andy (his foreign exchange student “brother”) were able to step into our lives and make as big of an impact on us and on Cazenovia as they did. We’ve had people share their stories about how Medhat left an impact on them, and we absolutely cherish hearing those.

For those of you who had the pleasure of meeting Medhat while he was here, you know just what a nice kid he is. Sadly, he and his family have gone through a lot since October 2023, including both his father’s and mother’s homes being demolished by airstrikes, being displaced to Egypt, and missing his senior year of high school due to displacement. While they don’t live in constant fear or aerial strikes, the emotional scars of what they witnessed will live within them forever.
