While I wish I could host this experience at The Camp Store alongside Jurassic Beach and our light shows the next best option is Carlsbad Strawberry Company and it’s called Fantasy Fright. I based Fantasy Fright off a book I wrote about my daughter called Lady Bryn: The Path to Light and felt compelled to bring the book to life in this form. If you haven’t seen Bree and I for the last month it’s because we’ve been immersed in creating Fantasy Fright as a fun and entertaining experience for the entire family, an interactive dark fantasy maze (similar to a video game with music and levels) with all of the classic Halloween characters in animatronic form against sets that are almost beyond scale. I don’t want to give too much away because literally nobody has seen it yet but when we turned on this dragon last night to test it all of a sudden it finally all felt real. We hope that if you love The Camp Store you will love Fantasy Fright, and if you love Halloween you might not believe what’s hiding behind the corn here in Carlsbad of all places! Last Spring we hosted an event at The Camp Store called Jurassic Beach… and it was a huge hit with kids and families… so much so that I took the dinosaurs I had and created another dinosaur event called Jurassic Fright and was fortunate enough to partner with two amazing operators at Hana Field in Costa Mesa and Carlsbad Strawberry Company in Carlsbad. The concept was simple, instead of the beach we combined the dinosaurs with Halloween and made something unique and different in the corn.

The main thing I learned from Jurassic Fright, besides the potential of an experience like that, was it appealed to mostly families with small children. So I thought about another idea that would appeal to everyone and came up with Fantasy Fright. I needed a hero and my son didn’t want to be called Sir Eyrton so I pivoted to my daughter and created a character and story centered around Lady Bryn.

While most Halloween experiences are based on scares, Fantasy Fright is based on the story of Lady Bryn and incorporates every major monster you see in this video. In this world Lady Bryn travels through many monsters, collecting relics to aid her journey, before setting up a final encounter with Dracula. In this world Dracula is also a Dragon and it has an ending zone that i think will blow people away.

Fantasy Fright has big sets, custom music, great animatronic monsters, and a daytime and nighttime version. The day version is directly based off the book Lady Bryn: The Path to Light - the nighttime version is more like playing a video game like Castlevania with live actors, theatrical lighting, and custom effects amongst the corn. There is nothing like this!

September sessions at The Camp Store! Things are settled down, less people, back to a relaxed pace. August is here with live music every night! The kitchen is closing on Tuesdays as we do every August but please save the picnics for your camp sites. Our new pizza oven is amazing, orders are coming out in half the time and by September we hope to be taking online orders so you don’t have to wait in lines as well. Striving to keep progressing and delivering an experience unlike anything else in California.
